I used crusher run at my place as well. It stays quite muddy until packed. We have lots of rain up here (Seattle area), so a compactor is definitely the way to go. Compacted crusher run is about as hard a material as I can imagine without some sort of chemical bond (ie concrete or some other binder).

Watch out for those ruts that you bladed. I have found them to be the places where the first potholes show up.

I had a similar experiance the first time I bladed my drive, it had been in for about 5 years with no maintenance and in pretty good shape but a few low spots. I bladed in pretty deep and reshaped the drive, it looked beautiful until the rain.
Since that experiance several years ago I blade my drive pretty regular and do not need to go as deep. like everone else pretty much said driving on it is the key to making it hard again. There is always the chance of a gully washer right after you blade, in that case I too usually have to put the blade back on for a little touchup.
