Gravel Driveway

Don't have any personally but have looked at a lot of Landpride implements since I've already purchased and I wouldn't hesitate to buy Landpride. Seems like pretty good quality in the middle to high range of implements.

Have you seen the price on the landpride scarifier? The list is $500+ You could get a nice boxblade for that cash

Agred hazmat - wasn't refering to that particular implement - thought the question was the quality of Landpride in general which I think is pretty good if not cheap. That said as you indicated I would not just get a set of scarifiers when I could get them in conjunction with a box blade for about the same cost.

Ditto on the box scraper for the same price. I just thought it was a cool idea that combined good things from both types of implements for road grading. I was quoted $499 for the SF2566 scarifier and $849 for the LR1584 rake with gauge wheels. Already found a used SF2566 for $350, so I wouldn't be buying new anyway.

I have a landpride rear blade RB1560 & Rear Finish Mower FDR1560 (for now). Only a few hours to date. So far I'm impressed. The mower does an excellent cutting job. I used to mow professionally in my high school & college days. I'm still getting used to the RFM manuvering. The rear blade is ruggedly built and seems to work well (nothing to compare it to). I got it with skid shoes for snow plowing and they actually do their job and keep the blade above the gravel.

No way would I put a 60" boxblade on a BX. I probably has enough power, but it doesn't have enough weight to maintain traction when a boxblade that big gets filled up.

I use a Woods 48" boxblade on my B7500. 95% of the time it's "just right", but if I fill it up with wet material, I can run out of traction.

The boxblade is a great tool on a small tractor. It takes a while to learn how to use, but once you get the hang of it, you wonder how you lived without it. I use Lucy! with that aforementioned 48" boxblade to maintain our 4300' gravel driveway. Does a great job, but takes several passes to work an area. It would be nice to have a bigger blade/tractor combination, but then I would have a major hassle getting the mowing done (anything bigger than the B7500 would have a hard time negotiating the tight places.

Don't know how many of you are familiar with Gearmore, but they have a whole line of implements made for the BX series. They are of lighter weight, and not quite as rugged as the other units out there, but you can get alot out of them for a smaller price, not to mention the weight problems with the BX series.

beenthere has the right idea. You have to get down into the packed gravel, loosen it, then mix it with the looser stuff on top.

If you don't get down below the washboards and the potholes you are just filling in the low spots and the fix is temporary.

I have a pretty deep bed of gravel on my driveway (8"-10") and the scarifers on my box blade just weren't getting down deep enough.

I hooked up my 3ph middle buster and plowed it up like I was getting ready to plant it! You should have seen the stares I got from the neighbors./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

After I plowed it up real good, I took the box blade and smoothed and packed it. That was 5 years ago and it is almost good as new today. Mine is fairly flat though so hard rain only helps it.

Good luck with your project.

smthng2do,

Do you know if there is any info on the Gearmore BX implements on the Internet? I heard (from the list) that KK was doing a special line for BX-sized machines, but hadn't heard of any others. Thanks

Kevin

The First Choice 15 Series box blades, rear blades, and rakes are set up as true Cat 1 spacing, but the lift pins are reversible for sub-compacts, such as the BX Series to hook up easily too. http://home.midwest.net/~jimmc/index.html and are available in Kubota orange, NH blue, John Deere green, and Case red.
