Gravel or Stamatte for GradeMaster

In my limited vocabulary "crusher run" is gravel that has been run through a crusher. It will be sized at what the rollers or cone are set at. Say 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch etc. It has many fractured surfaces and contains fines so as to make a dense mix. It packs well because of this. :D :D

Just received my GradeMaster today and played around with it on the driveway. Worked great, but really showed that I need more fill to get the driveway back higher then the surrounding grass.

One dealer lists the Staymat as "Crusher Fines w/ 3/4" Minus Fractured Stone"
They also list Plant Mix as "Crusher Fines w/ 1*1/2" Minus Fractured Stone"

So, would it be better to use one of these, or crusher run, or are they about the same thing?

Thanks, looks like 3/4 Staymat then.

Here is an interesting cost comparison.

Local company will deliver Staymat at $25/cy.
I can buy the material from a stone yard for $8.00/ton and have it trucked for $68/hour (by the same above mentioned local company) for a 16 cy truck. It should take less than 2 hours per load as the site is about 18 miles away.

By my calculations I should be able to save about $91 or more per truck load.

Local Price: 25x16=$400 per truck load

Local Trucking and Distant Stone Yard:
16 CY= 21.6 Tons x $8= $172.80 for material plus $68 x 2 hours for trucking = $136.
$172.80 + $136.00= $308.90 per truck load.

What are the ratings for the roads in your area?

21.6 tons for just the load not counting the weight of the truck would be over our road weight limits here in Southern Chittenden County...

Interesting. Not sure. The gravel yard said the mix weighs about 2700# per yard. They have 16 yard trucks so 2700 x 16= 43,200 lbs., or 21.6 tons. So are you saying they can't fully load the trucks? I never thought to ask.

Well they can load it, but I don't know if your roads are weight limited...Mine is an old farm road they paved over, but never put down a new base...so we are limited to 24000 lbs, 14,000 during mud season. Though a neighbor had nice big dumps rolling onto his property when he put up a new arena...The fact that the road had to be rebuilt at his turnoff and repaved the next year...I don't know if the Town billed him...

had to put in a 650 ft road across my place and used a base of 3" and then topped it with 5/8 under and it compacted like blacktop

Don't know what Route 100 is rated for, but after that it is just a local dirt road. I've seen lots of loaded dump trucks come and go up and down the local road from Route 100. I guess I'll call the trucking company and ask them if they have any weight limits with their 16 yd trucks.

The trucking companies should be aware of the weight limits of the roads/bridges in the area in which they work.:D :D
