Both are fine. They say 5-6" is good over the fabric. With that a strong 2" plus a strong 2" will get you there. Some would do 5-6" of say 1 1/2" and let that settle for a year or so before a fine topping- like 3/4" minus. I haven't found a situation that I needed to do that though.
It's not just the rock. It's the rock and fines mixed and that locks together well. The pit or query will have a product that is used as road base or road building. My pit called it class 2 base. But in Idaho they call it 3/4" minus or 1 1/2" minus or whatever size you need. I've seen it called pit run or crusher run/rock as well. The pit will have the stuff "everyone" uses (including the city/county/state) around you- just ask.
And take some photos when you are able to get on the project. I'm assuming it's still too wet?
This is what most pits around here carry Drayton Sand & Gravel Ltd.- Material
You may want to stop by your local highway department and get recommendation on type to use and where to buy.3/4" crushed and 1" crushed is what looks to be the stuff. Stay away from the sand. It's crushed stone you want.
Here is a starting point. They say toward the end "up to 18" of imported material" - that's a highway!

A local "Building Supply" will have the fabric at the best price. Someplace local sells concrete blocks, erosion control products and other concrete products (drains, vapor barrier etc) They should have the fabric as well.
