i just bought a 272z with the daihatsu 31hp turbo. 850hrs. was fleet maintained but it has a heat problem. yesterday was 96'f here and runs above 220'f to about 230'f. does not boil over and looses no coolant but makes me very nervous. screens are clear, oil is full. according to the manual 3600rpm is operating speed. if i pull it back a little it will gradually cool down to 220 or so. it never overheats but what can i do? anyone have any experience with this mower?? thanks, mark

I saw 1 of these on Ebay for sale.
Seller said it came from Texas A&M ?
Is that where you bought yours ?

Awww, look. It wants to be a turbo when it grows up!

I don't think I have ever seen a turbo that small before.

The turbo on my JD 3720 compact tractor was not much, if any, larger than that one. As for the running hot, I cannot help you. You might want as a resource to call Johnnie Shubert, Inc. in Newton, NC (I cannot recall their number right now). The area code is 828. Mark Shubert, Johnnie's son, now owns the dealership. They sell a ton of mowers and if I recall are one of the leading Gravely dealers in the USA, if not the leading dealer in sales. They sell almost exclusively to commercial mowers and have likely seen it all. They might have some insight as to the reason for the "over"heating issue. If Mark does not know, he could likely connect you with someone at corporate who could offer you some help. The Shuberts are good people and I think would try to help you resolve this if they could--even if you don't live there.

email notification is not working, sorry for the long delay. i fixed this problem by moving the seat up. seems these mowers dont have enough air flow when the seat is against the radiator. thanks for all the replys. mark

i did buy this from texas a&m, they had 2 or 3 that sale. i went and checked them out before the auction and picked what i thought was the best one. they all brought about the same money.

The Max RPM Governed range for those engines were from 3100 to 3600 RPM. Running it at 3100 would cut your HP from 31 to 30.5. That also might make your engine run cooler.
