Is it necessary to use good quality grease on an old disc harrow that has white metal bearings (not ball or roller bearing)? I find no matter what grease I use it only lasts for 1-2 hours of work before it starts squeaking and I have to grease again, or if I put my hand on a bearing and it's getting hot I will grease again.

The better quality grease cartridges can be 2-4 times expensive as cheaper general purpose grease and it gets expensive, but I guess I would pay the price if it would significantly extend bearing life.

I have a disc like that. The cheapest stuff from Tractor Supply is used. It is black and stains everything it touches but is satisfactory for the job.

Sometimes it goes on sale for 99 cents. Then several cases of 10 are purchased.

At least you don't have wooden bearings. My old roller came with wooden bearings that had split and broken. The lumber yard couldn't even tell what wood it was. Their hardest wood was some oak that I passed on.

I just found a piece of pipe that the roller's axle would slip in and welded pieces of it to the frame on both ends. Tapped a hole for the Zerk and away we go. Now that is a bearing that needs lubing.

Cheap grease in frequent and light application is what I recommend. Not much point in putting alot of grease if it will be pushed out in the first 10 minutes.
