Grease: Lets get technical

So, for most consumer / light to moderate use any grease is great. For high wear and dirty conditions in construction / mining etc a high quality or specific grease has its place.

That pretty well sums it up. I know of a couple of instances where a better quality of grease was warranted. One was on a wheel loader, after 2 hours of work, the bucket pins would start to squeal "Grease meeee! Grease meeee!". They switched (with much skepticism) to a better grease from TRC and lo and behold, they could get a full day of work between greasing. Another was a small truck universal joint. Normally these particular ones need to be replaced about every 100,000 K. This one was regularly greased with TRC grease from day one and it lasted over 210,000 K before it was replaced. And yet another application was internal lubing a piece of equipment that could only be done before assembly. Normally, 6 months of constant work would be the limit for these things before they had to be rebuilt. Switching to TRC grease has extended the run time to 18 months and it's still going.

Just this past week, a fellow from one of the local Hutterite Colony's was in at the TRC dealer and he said their cost for grease dropped significantly (less than half) and the amount they have to use has been reduced also since changing to TRC plus their greasing intervals have also been extended saving them considerable time.

If all you have is some old piece of half worn out equipment, then switching to a high quality grease isn't really going to make a difference...stick with the cheap stuff, but if you have good equipment and take good care of it, using a high quality grease will pay dividends.

P.S. Last tube of TRC grease I bought just last week was $7.25 if you are wondering.

Wow Mace. Being from Texas and in this industry, I am familiar with TRC. My friends use the Schaeffer red grease. It performs at least the same as TRC if not better and its only $3.48/tube around here.

Yeah John...we get the dubious honour of paying through the nose for a lot of products that you guys get for a decent price.

I've heard a lot of good stuff about Schaeffer products  but I haven't heard of any local distributors around here. I used TRC as an example of a high quality lube since I use it and have some first hand knowledge of it's benefits but you're right, there's others out there...the trick is finding them!
