I have tried to grease my 425. The two grease fittings on the front lifter and the top center pivot fittings will not allow me to put any grease in, even when I replaced them. What is wrong?

There's at least a couple of different tools that are designed to help in that situation:

1. One injects light oil (3-in-1, machine type oil) into the grease fitting to loosen up any dried, crusty grease...

2. A different type uses high impact pressure to try to blow any obstruction or dried grease out of the way. You usually hit these with a hammer to give a sudden jolt of pressure...

I don't have a solution for you, other than to remove the fittings and see if you can pump grease through them when they are out of the PT. If they work that way, you eliminate the first point of failure. Then you can look in the hole where the fitting came out of and see if there is anything in there. Make sure the holes actually go somewhere and are not plugged. Take a thin piece of wire and poke the grease in the hole. See if it is hard as a rock or not. Worse comes to worse, you may have to loosen up a joint and pump in enough good grease to get the old grease out of it, then tighten it back up and see if it then works.

Also, do a search of TBN for grease AND zerk. There was some discussion of this a few months, maybe a year, ago. Same thing... zerk would not take grease.

Hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I had this on the center pivot points (upper and lower). Ended up that I just changed position by moving the wheel which aligned grease track.

You might borrow an electric grease gun and try that. The Lincoln and Alemite (which I have) promise to push in grease where other methods fail using really intense pressure, though I have had to replace zerks as well to get flow. I would ditto the other advice you have gotten, poking the grease, using solvent, etc, if you cannot achieve success by other means.

I had not considered the channel alignment aspect. Maybe someone could elaborate further on that. I'm betting that applies to some zerks/paths and not others.

Thanks, Paul. That's one of the solutions I was trying to recall. I knew there was some previous discussions on it here and in some other forums.

Pabjoubes remedy works most of the time, take out the grease fitting like moss said and pick out as much of the hard grease as you can. It still could take quite a bit of pressure to break it loose but once you do get it broke loose flush the joint out good. After you have used the machine a little while flush it out again. I know you probably already know this but when you are greasing the machine always wipe the grease fitting off before you try to put grease in it, if you don't you could push dirt down into the joint.

Since I used brand new zerks and that did not work, and the grease inside looks fine, I guess I need to get the grease gun. Where can I buy an Alemite locally?

How would you describe "properly aligned" for me?

Each time that I had the problem of the center point not taking grease I would turn the wheel a quarter turn. Tried to give it grease and if it did not work would turn another quarter turn. Most of the time this worked.
I did switch to a pressure grease gun and that also was a major factor in breaking the line open.
