I've dinged my shin enough times and learned to take the hitch out.
Some teen driving an Oldsmobile hit the back of my Silverado... I had just unhitched the trailer and wanted to top off the truck fuel tank.
The ball mount took all the impact and not a scratch on my bumper... the Olds had a trailer ball pushed all the way into the radiator and that was against the fan...
Just don't see a downside here.
This one is for you Chris. I saw this yesterday, tried to snap a pick, but couldn't get to the phone fast enough. I came up behind a Chevy Colorado yesterday at a red light. I saw it, but wasn't paying super close attention, but I was stopping far enough back. Then all of a sudden I saw something. This guy had a 2" tube sticking out of his hitch that stuck out 4'. Stuck straight out almost like a hay spear. I followed him in to Menards and then he proceeded to go head at another vehicle so he could back into one of the loading spots up in front of the building so his 4' extension could hang out over the sidewalk. I've never seen anything like it - maybe part of a bike rack, but missing the part that made it so you could see it. Had I not been paying close enough attention or whatever, that could have been real bad.
This is drifting off-topic from greased balls, but I wondered if all you folks who leave the hitch in the receiver all the time also have a locking pin to make it harder for somebody to steal your hitch.
