I have heard that some bearings can be over greased. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif(sealed bearings) Does anyone know how many shots of grease should be applied to the deck bearings. The manual on my BX2230 shows the grease points but does not indicate how much grease. Can these bearings be over greased?

I had the same questions as you. Below is the response that I received from Kubota.

( Thank you for contacting Kubota. I suggest that you grease them after each ten hours of actual use. Apply grease until you see excess grease slightly weeping from the spindle shaft seals. This should ensure a long and reliable life for our mower. )

Thanks, JWE, just the info I was looking for.....question..what about that middle bearing, the fitting is on the side of the mounting so does that grease have to travel thru a tube or someting to get to the bearing? And can you see the grease coming out of that bearing??

Thanks much,
Stumper

I DON'T BELEIVE those are sealed bearings. usually if they have grease fittings they are not sealed. just grease them till some strts to seep out, and u should be good to go.

I have not noticed grease weeping from the spindles. I have a pneumatic grease gun and I give each spindle 4 shots.

No , you cannot overgrease a bearing. You can however pump more thru the bearings than need be. This will in turn leave a mess somewhere in your yard or driveway.

I could pump grease till the cows come home and not see any come out. Where does it go?... In those cups on the bottom of the deck. Pump it till your happy /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif, then give it one more shot for luck! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I started a post on this topic about two years ago. My 60" MMM on my B7500 will NEVER weeps grease. When I first got it, I tried to grease and the pumps on the gun were so hard, I thought I would blow a seal or a hose. I now grease it first time of the season, and mid season, depending on use, or more if needed. I only give it a few pumps each zerk. I did grease it this year, first time, and gave each only 5-6 pumps. No weeping appeared, but after I mowed, the covers had a band of spent grease all over them from the spindle throwing it. Look back at the old threads.

I've heard that it is very bad to get that stuff on the belts. I would have thought it would just wear off with no problems. Does anyone know about that?
