Greasing my new Jeep - Same grease as my tractor?

I bought a new Wrangler Rubicon and was VERY surprised to find grease fittings! I didn't know they put them on cars anymore, but I guess a Jeep is a throwback to the good (bad?) old days. Anyway, there are a numbers of them that seem to be suspensions and steering related. I have a gun with black moly grease for my loader, and I have another gun with Red Wolfs Head grease that I use for my deck.

Would either of these work as a good lube for te Jeep? I asked the mechanic at the dealership and of course,... he reccomended Mopar /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

BTW - Why is he asking about Jeeps on a tractor page? ... Where else would I find a group of guys with the combined experience of TBN... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You can use either one. Most shops use the cheapest they can find and I've never seen any grease related failures. I've seen lots of lack of grease related failures, though.

I do it all the time on my 99 Sahara and have never had a problem. (I just have one kind of grease for everything). If you have access to an air compressor pick up a $15 air powered grease gun . . . .sure makes it nice for doing all the tractor and car stuff.

Hi

I have been Jeeping for any years. Any grease is better than lack of it, that's for sure.

I tend to use the moly type for the u-joints and steering linkage.

My critical failure was always the front wheel bearings, due to the deep mud and water crossings. I have been using the Sta-Lube Marine Grease for this, and found it to be more forgiving of water than others. This is a blue colored product that is quite flexible for packing bearings.

If you're going to grease it with every oil change, all will perform satisfactory. The marine is a fantastic idea. Personally, I'd stay away from the white lithium type. <font color="red"> </font> Red <font color="black"> </font> works great and even if it didn't, matches the <font color="red"> </font> Allis Chalmers! <font color="red"> </font> We got to keep on top of what's important. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You could also check out Red Line CV-2. It's a great all-around grease. Those Rubicons are kick-**** - I'd love to get one. I've got a 2000 Grand Cherokee Quadra-Drive with a Kenne Bell supercharger, lift kit, in-cab adjustible suspension, custom fab'd exhaust, and miscellaneous other stuff. It's a good off-roader, but I'd like to step up to one of those Rubicons - I've been over the Rubicon up in Tahoe a bunch of times, and my GC did pretty good, but it was mad at me for a long time after...
