Great lake boats, a good video

It's sometimes hard for people to appreciate how large these things are, and how large the Great Lakes that they sail on truly are.

Look at the many stories of stairs on the back of that ship.

Then realize this is going out on a lake. Not an ocean. A lake.

If you've never seen the Great Lakes in person, get out there and take a trip. (y)
Ted Turner has a famous quote on Display on South Manitou island at the old restored lifesaving station unfortunately i cant recall it. South Manitou Island on Northern Lake Michigan also has quite a few partially preserved old Farms and some old equipment visitors can see. Its really a neat park plus you can see this partially submerged wreck Shipwreck of the Francisco Morazan - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (U.S. National Park Service)

Cool that was a WW2 tanker originally. There is so much floating history on the great lakes!

On average, they only freeze completely over every 10 years or so. Here we are standing on shove ice which was over 20ft tall. Had big rocks in it as well. Shove ice is what gets pushed up from wind over the winter. Some of the bumps seen in this photo, might be 40ft above the water..... o_O
