Last saltie of season fills up in Superior​

Crews at CHS in Superior loaded grain into the Maria G on Friday afternoon before it was scheduled to leave port Saturday, making it the final saltie of the season.

Through November, there were 44 overseas vessels in the Twin Ports compared to 79 a year ago.

Grain exports through November from Duluth-Superior totaled 659,058 tons, compared to 1.2 million tons in 2020. Grains have been among the few cargos not to post a better tonnage figure over the pandemic-depressed 2020.

The Chamber of Marine Commerce, based in Ottawa, Ontario, said slower grain exports were “due to smaller harvests compared to 2020.”

I looking for dog pics and found some old Spartan ones when he came down our canal and through town a few years ago.. He was avoiding the wind and tied up untill the lake settled down. We chatted with the crew. Its a chemical barge.

Reminded me of a coal barge on the Milwaukee river going up to the powerplant, all of a sudden the tugs horn started blaring, the engine was screaming in full reverse, and the bridge wasn't opening they ended up hitting the huge wooden safety bollards instead of the bridge I used to think those old wooden bollards were crooked because of age and ice, nope.
