Hey folks, tonight the RFD channel is doing a program on compact tractors. If you get this channel on TV and are interested in small tractors, don't miss the program. It's the second in a series and I think JD sponsors it. I think the RFD channel has a website, too, so you might be able to order the program.

I found the web site. The program is called John Deere "Live" tonight at 8P, eastern time.

Second in the series sounds GREAT! Let's hope they improved on the first episode. I'm not looking to buy or anything, but I like to watch this stuff...

Did you see the last one. When the woman called in about the JD Tee shirt, that Terry Clark wore in her concert. She wanted to know were to buy one. The look on the experts faces was priceless. LOL

If this show is anything like the last one, it's a total waste of time...

A LOT of deferrals to the dealer. While this is a good thing, in ways, they could have provided more detail in most cases.

Guy has 6 acres to mow (says he's lazy) and wants pristine results. They somehow managed to dance around the recommendation of any specific models. They could have said 300, or 400 series lawn tractor with 54" deck, a front mount machine, or at least SOMETHING...

Then the campground guy looking to mow a lot of area. They said nothing about ease of use with a MMM and not needing to look back and judge swing out of the mower or the idea that rear mount is best at straight line mowing in open areas and MMM or better yer front mount is better around obstacles, turns, alongside fences etc.

Then there's the one from MI who has trouble starting her tractor (6000 series) when cold. Didn't even think about mentioning to plug the darn thing in a few hours prior to use when cold.

They are improving though. Calls switched in smoothly and aside from the idea that every caller was friendly and they played "hello, how are you" for the first 10 seconds rather than just getting to the question.

I particularly liked the part about the JD "universal" control color coding. That was pretty decent, and something I nevere realized.

Channel 379 on DTV, Dish Net has it too, but I'm not sure the number.

I know DTV needs a multi satellite/LNB dish to get it.

So how was it? Better than the first? Obviously I missed it.

I did not see the first show but I did see the second one.

It was not bad. I think they could have answered more questions AND made the referrals to the dealer. The call about starting in the cold weather certainly could have been handled better.

A couple of the calls where asking where to get more info and it was killing me that they did not respond with www.tractorbynet.com. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would watch a third show if they put one out.

I only caught about the last 30 mintues of each of the two (known) episodes.

I like that they are doing this,, but I really havn't heard much of any real answers as some others here have illuded to as well.

I am guessing that the guys on the show ( and girl on first one ) are more the management types that maybe do not even have that much real world experience AND they have also probably been instructed to defer answers to the dealers so that people will walk through the door of dealerships.

Perhaps not a bad marketing approach. Their main goal is probably more of a marketing oriented approach - so this would make sense to me.

In my case I already have a dealer who will help me if needed but I want to see it for the same reaons I read this forum - for practical owner info and idea's, which as I said, I am guessing is NOT why they are running the program.... ( sales sales sales ) It's all good though,,,, I understand what they are doing.

Hopefully they read this forum too and maybe they will at least throw us a few bones and be more specific. They can always throw in the standard disclaimer that one should check with your local dealer due to regional circumstances that would affect a final decision on what equipment would be best in a specific customers area.

tom

So here is the question that must come to mind:

Does John Deere marketing department pay for the program?
or
Does John Deere customer support department pay for the program.

If you come to the same conclusion as do I, then the format of the program makes sense....

If they would get the girls back on with some low cut dresses would we care who paid for it.... NO OFFENSE to anyone !!!!

I was curious about the program, since I had originally started this topic thread.....and, since, I am a total novice with my JD tractor. The program itself was a disappointment to me. My reaction is that I have learned far more on this web site than any other source.....dealer, neighbor, TV show, manual, etc.
Ya'll might be interested to know that my local dealer had several calls from customers after this show aired. He was annoyed with JD, commenting to me that the company had not alerted the dealers in advance of the show.
For people like me, who know zip about tractors, I suppose it might have been a decent marketing tool. That's about it.

Boy I'll second that comment. I found TBN before I even bought my tractor and it was DEFINATELY the most helpful source of info. All of the sudden I was looking for a bigger tractor, with a required FEL, a canopy, box blade...

Now that I think about it, I think you guys cost me about $10k. And yet I feel compelled to say thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

For those interested in WHAT RFD-TV is, you can visit their website at RFD-TV.com.

I wonder if RFD stands for the same thing as Mayberry RFD? (Rural Free Delivery)
