This has me wondering again how well a stump bucket would work on a CUT.

I don't know, the main thing this tool does is cut the roots and even then on a few that had roots 6" and bigger, I had to cut them with a chainsaw.
A bigger machine would have been able to cut even them, but not my 38hp. I could not do with my 66" bucket what I can do with this 3" foot and
3/4" blade. First , on some trees you can't get all the way around them with a bucket, with the reach of this tool I can get around most trees and
I am not digging massive holes all the way around, just a small trench. The last oak tree I took down, it was close to others and no way could
you get in with the bucket. I was able to drag the foot on all 4 sides which cuts 2 to 3 ft deep and when I pushed it with the foot it came out roots
and all. I guess the tree company that made it knew what they were doing.

I was battling with this tree a while back. I gave up for now. I went around it with a Ditch witch with vibratory plow and also chopped roots off with a axe. The tractor won't push it out still. I even hooked a 1/2 ton truck to it with a load of wood on it and pulled on the tree while pushing with the tractor. I also tried pulling with a 1 ton truck with a cord of wood and pushing with the tractor. Next thing I'm gonna do is hook onto individual roots and pull them out. I'm not sure if something like your ripper or a stump bucket would be more effective than the DW at root ripping.

That looks like a tuff one. Anything that cuts the roots would be doing the same as my root blade. an excavator or backhoe is sometimes the way to go.
Or just dig around it and cut it off below the grade and cover with grass and done.

A backhoe with ripper would be the tool you want. That or two minutes with a big excavator.

I've dug those size stumps out with my Woods BH90x with ripper. Takes about thirty minutes digging to identify all the big roots and rip them. Usually have to move the tractor two or three times to get full access. After that you can usually pull or push the stump to loosen it up. Certainly don't cut any more of the truck as leverage is king.

Roger, heresy here, I know, but a couple of 18-year olds with a digging bar, shovel and an old axe would have that puppy ready for a good yank in 15 minutes. Not nearly as much fun though.

Sorry for getting the thread off topic. I'd never tried to push a mimosa tree out before. I did not know what kind of root system they had. The main reason I gave up on it for now is I'll be renting a stump grinder sometime and I'll just grind it out. I have been trying to get out the smaller trees with the tractor so I can focus on the bigger ones.
