Nice system - if you don't mind sharing care to tell where are you find the racks?

Went to college up the road from you in Carbondale years ago. Now over towards Eville, Henderson area. I actually bought the racks in Henderson from a surplus center. I bought all he had and the way they talked they had them for a long time because they were willing to sell them to me for $10 each if I took them all away. Can't build anything for that price. I had been looking for them for about 6 months prior and never found any for less than $40 each. I would be watching for auctions at industrial complexes or even drive through some looking for some to buy. Sometimes businesses don't know what to do with them especially if they are family owned. I would like about ten more and i will let you know if I come across some extras.

Well in the past I have posted my racks for wood storage. This is the first spring that I have had them to start a whole season. Here are my first 20 racks of wood seasoning for next year. I cut and split this in three 4 hour days. My knees were telling me to stop after the 4th hour. :) I plan on picking up 10 more racks next week to complete my needed inventory.

Are you sure that you will have adequate air flow for drying? I stack mine one row wide, perpendicular to the prevailing wind to get flow through the stack.

This years Great Wall is now under cover. I added a lean-to so it is now out of the snow and rain. The side wall is starts about 7 feet up to protect from blowing rain. I have 20 racks and burned 18 last year.

Nice compact storage but how do you get the wheelbarrow, etc. down when you need it?:D

Millweld,
I haven't used that wheelbarrow but once since I bought my tractor six years ago. It has been placed in long term storage. I could climb the "wall" if necessary to get things down if necessary though. :0

Well, I've made some changes to my indoor living arrangements, so felt I'd like to enjoy the fireplace more this winter. While I heat mostly with coal, the fireplace is still nice. ... But "carrying wood" can be a chore.
I ran across the IBC totes, which I thought offered potential for many things, including a portable wood shed .. or 2 or 3.

I bought 2 of them to modify and see how it all worked out. It seems, like the answer, even though, "they aren't beautiful". While I'm moving mine around with the tractor, they could be placed beforehand and loaded, to keep the wood under cover and then, they could be put out of the way in the summer. I also, made some from wooden pallets.

This one is loaded with some "junk wood", which I want to get rid of first.

Wow, I haven't seen this thread in a while. I like your totes. I think I would make the top removable. It would make it easier to load and then just set the top back on. My 20 Racks are loaded and ready for winter. Just cleaned the chimney this morning and having our first fire tonight.

They aren't hard to load at all, with the top in place. ... a row from each side, with a few stray pieces thrown in the center space. Also, the top ribs would have to be removed, to lift off the top.
