Re: Greatest Product? How about the Worst Inventi
Hey, wait! You're a musician! Bluegrass? Ever been called trailer trash? I've had much fun made of my old Doc Watson tape - it's queued up out in the garage right now.
Nelly's deceived, just like the rest. He's wasting his talent, if you can call it that, pandering to the market for "gangsta" lyrics. He could sound exactly the same and put better messages into his music - he's a pawn of the forces that would keep certain elements of society thinking that they can't change things without outside help. He's helping to keep that segment he markets to "on the plantation". I bet he'd really take issue with that! Just like Jesse, who is doing the same thing!
When they hose off some scumbag, sober him up for 30 minutes, and set him on a chair to talk about how he "verbalizes the struggle of the street", I enjoy very much O'Reilly quoting his lyrics and asking him to explain how his portrayal of women or police is verbalizing anything but savagery and hatred. Only the bad boys get press. And two in the hat at a stop light. Some things take care of themselves - not wishin' for it, just observing it.
However, I grew up hearing sermons about how the beat of rock leads to evil, and I used that and other stupid ideas as excuses to walk away from faith. Took me a long time and a lot of bumps n' bruises to see how I threw the truth away because of a few small lies. So I am careful not to condemn the medium when it is the message that is the problem.
I'm not aiming that at you, Gary, 'cause I feel very much the same as you, although I focus on the lyrics, not the melody. Mostly I'm having some fun and sharing my heart. Now get back in the trailer and beat a couple dozen of those dogs before Dukes of Hazard comes on.
