UGLEDNI VINAR Zinfandel se vratio u svoju pradomovinu > Slobodna Dalmacija > Dubrovnik

Zinfandel is back in his homeland

The world's most famous Croatian winemaker, 87-year-old Miljenko Grgic, one of the pioneers of American winemaking in Napa Valey, California, and the initiator of establishing the origin the most famous American grape vine Zinfandel and cro-relatives (Plavac Mali), which have common roots in our ancient grape vine Crljenak Visited the vineyard in the western part Basina Viganj owned by a prominent American businessman Robert Hermann Benmoshea and his business partner Mary Mrgudić from Orebic.

They have raised it about three and a half years and the original seedling planted Zinfandel shipped from the U.S., which is symbolically the most famous American black sorta returned to his homeland.

Although in later years, but still very vital, Miljenko Gragić that Zinfandel is the first plantations on the peninsula, accompanied by Mary visited Mrgudić, did not hide his satisfaction with the project, which is ultimately at the above location is planned to plant 20,000 vines.

I congratulate her and her business partner said that it is achieving its vision of the common origin of small pumice and Zinfandel, but visible progress in the Peljesac and Croatian wine.

Prominent American and Croatian winemaker Miljenko Grgic was on vacation in Trstenik, where he has his own winery, and where he started the renaissance of wine making on the peninsula.

My father was born in the Peljesac region in a little village by the name of Putnikovic'. He came over to America in 1910 and in 1918 came out to the Santa Clara Valley in California. He was a fruit rancher for many years raising apricots, prunes, cherries and walnuts. My daughter and I were in Croatia in 2005 for the first time. I had never communicated with any of my relatives and went there hopefully to locate some of them. This was quite a chore since my last name is Miletich and is a very common name there. We located a first cousin and he lives in Lapad which is adjacent to Dubrovnik. This is sure a beautiful area and can't wait to get back there. I am planning a 2 week trip the end of April of this year. I will be traveling by myself this time.

Explanation for this is very simple - Beer is drink for the people (stomach), Wine for the Gods, and for the human soul. Difference is drastic.. :)

Since it has happened that I didn't become the God, and hopefully not losing the human soul, I'd choose both either good beer or excellent wine depending on the situation. :D:D
P.s. smart decision with the 'smiles' (glasses of wine)
