Tractor
Ebro A30L
Hi all, my name is Derek, i'm English but live in NW corner of Spain, about 120km north of the border with Portugal. After spending most of my life at sea i'm now a landlubber, forced to retire due to health, even though i seam to work more now than when i worked
I live in a rural area with La Coruña, the closest city, half an hours drive away so i'm not completely isolated.

At the end of last year i bought an old tractor, 1978 Ebro A30L. Its a small 30hp articulated tractor with 4 wheel drive(all the same size) that needed a lot of work to get it in some sort of decent workable condition and spent most of my winter on that and other projects asociated with it, carry box, car trailer hitch and more recently a small agricultural trailer. Lacking knowlege on most stuff the internet has been a great help, thats how i found the forum, looking for and reading different topics related to tractors and the varios implements to make the labour easier.

I would have loved to have bought a brand new tractor but as i mentioned, retired due to health, money is not in great abundence but to compensate I have time and so i've had to do lots of scrounging, recycling and salvage to get working what i have. I must admit its been quite gratifying

The Ebro A30L is similar to the probably more famous Pasquali and Agria tractors, and was built under licencing from Valpadana in Italy.
It has a Lombardini LDA 672 aircooled diesel engine rated from 28 to 35hp depending on which tractor its on as this engine has been used by all the manufactures i have mentioned, and others on varios tractors.
8 speed grarbox, 3x forward and 1x reverse in each of the low and high ratios
3 point hitch and double PTO, the main one turns anticlockwise which is a pain when looking for implements that need power like a tiller or brush cutter as the clockwise PTO is not as robust and is mainly used for the likes of power driven trailers and pumps.

Once i find my way around i'll post more photos that i took during the restore.

Regards to all

Derek

Welcome aboard from Texas!
That actually looks like a good machine. Might could use a bit of lube here and there but I bet it does a good job.

What are you wanting to grow?

How did you end up in Espana?

Thanks all, It is proving a good machine so far, i got a bit carried away with the "lube here and there"

Engine out to check crank and pistons and put in a new oil pump

Its the biggest project i've taken on since restoring my house(not finished yet) not being a mecanic or painter i think it turned out ok

What will i use it for? fetching wood, tilling and ploughing,

WP_20140414_003_zpsf5b1259c.jpg

and anything else that i can use it for that i used to do with a barrow.

We grow potatoes, maiz for the animals and lots of other veg in a tunnel greenhouse and the house garden.

Hope i haven't gone over the top with photos, delete them if i have. I was going to start a restore thread but as its already done and only a few minor details to sort i don't know if i should.

regards

Derek

Edit : I ended up in spain as when we discharged the ship here, i met a local girl and you know how it is.........

Wow, awesome job on the tractor. Hope it's good for another 40 years.

Sounds like your life could be the basis for a fairy tale with a good ending. How's your Spanish coming along? Do many there speak english?

I was guessing that there was a "local girl" involved. :)

Nice tiller setup, and beautiful pictures. Maybe you need to start an olive tree grove or vineyard? :)

My Spanish is taking over from my english, i don't speak english from one month to the next and am losing it(you can probably tell from my spelling, it always did suck but so many words are similar in spanish but spelt differently i often make mistakes)

Unfortunately i'm just out of the vineyard zone, they do grow but not as good. Albariño is a world famous white wine fairly local (I recomend you try it if you get a chance) and also Ribeira just to the north east is a nice young red if you prefer the red. I have some olives but not enough sun here, further to the south and towards the med is good for them.

@Square1, thanks, not likely its too **** hot down there, i have the mirrors set left one for the road/traffic and the right one to watch the trailer doesn't get to close to the ditch/roadside as its much wider than the tractor and also i can keep an eye on the tiller and rear wheel, the tractor is only 1 meter wide and the tiller is 1.2 meters so i get the wheel marks tilled out when centred, rather than have to offset it to one side.

The tiller is made by Agrator, pinion drive rather than chain and has a working width of 1.2meters, its quite heavy for its size as it has double trumpet for extra strength among other things, 9 discs with 4 blades per disc if i remember, as you can see by the blades it doesn't get used much.

Welcome! You've got the most complete introductory thread I've ever seen...well done!!
Impressive rework on the tractor.
I spent over a week with the family visiting southern and central Spain, didn't get close to Portugal.
I know what you mean regarding how use of one language messes with another one...Lived in Honduras for couple of years.
If you think Spanish will mess with your brain...just wait until you get into messing with Portuguese ... Son married a Brazilian and we visited for the wedding. The two languages are related... people who know Portuguese understand Spanish...but I could never understand spoken Portuguese.... somehow it adds syllables which shouldn't be there, drops syllables which should be there and changes the pronunciation of some letters dramatically...but am sure you know all that already!!

Keep those photos coming.... great start!:welcome:

Thanks for your kind comments John. This region is called Galicia and the local language is galician which is very similar to portugese so i don't have much trouble as long as they speak slowly, problem is when they realise you understand a bit the start to speak to you as if you were a local.

cheers
Derek
