Bob & Joy et. al....Greetings, Program!
Never got to you before you and Family departed.
Hope mini-bike turned out to be a 'screemer'.
Still in LA.... only for love of my Dad and his committment to join us in WA. Hope your puppy has a road to 'rule and defend'. My keyboard is still sticky! Thank you and Joy for letting me visit, even though I over-shot your directions and turned around near San Diego! God Bless you-all...glad your back on TBN. Chip

Well folks, we finally got the internet connection up and running today, made us wait 3.5 weeks for install...( .
The house is done, the garage is hopeless, and I've been totally irritated by the moving company. They destroyed one 17" monitor, damaged one, and lost one, as well as a printer and nefarious other items. Turkey's even destroyed my corner desk, and wiped out the school computer.
Unfortunately, we had to settle for an 'intown' two story home on a double corner lot. Maybe in time, we will find the rural property we want, but the feller upstairs will have to point that one out.
No replacement for Grumpy in sight yet, and I'm afraid that will be set back on the back burner for awhile longer than planned. I was feeling a little 'punky' a few weeks back and went to the Doc, found out I have Lymphoma, and will have to undergo an unplanned series of chemo-therapy treatments.
Won't know the 'solid' prognosis until tomorrow or Friday, but the tentative one is looking very good, and not expected to change too much.
Job is great! I get to do 'my thing' and try new approaches and ideas that I never could on a production system. FUN!!!
Nice to find out for sure that some theorys that I had do work out, even if a couple were more of a pain than I thought they would be! Now how many of you have run into those 'easy' adaptations before? You know, the ones that look like a cinch upfront, and turn out to be a bear when attempted! Love the challenge!
Lordy, have y'all been prolific with the messages out here on the board! I've got a couple thousand to wade through!
Well 'nuff writing, gotta get to reading!

Welcome back, Scruffy! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Sorry about the rough spots in your moving adventure. Sounds like one of those chapters that's just good to get past, so you can get on with your life. Same goes for the lymphoma. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Talk about going through changes! You still got the same family you left with? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Your job seems to be the silver lining in all this. Getting to do things "your way" is a rare and cherished thrill in the land of professional computer geeks. I'm betting good things come of your efforts.

Maybe you could talk Muhammad into sending you a hard copy of the messages for the last couple of months, so's you'll have something to read yourself to sleep with. By the time you're done reading it, of course, you'll be behind again. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

It'll be good to have your wit and experience back on the board, but it sure will be strange to think of you as a non-tractor owner.

Yep! Still got the same family!! At least we didn't loose any of them along the way! The trouble spots will fade away in the future, and another tractor will appear out in the garage, just not as soon as I had hoped that is all!
The job is a peach, and the 'crew' is very supportive! Nice bunch of guys and gals, whom for whatever moment of insanity are impressed with the changes already made. Being lazy, I've already automated most of what is considered 'daily' chores, and installed automated downloading of the required government upgrades. Biggest pain was govt firewalls, as if you don't know anything 'bout those Harv!
The other 'stuff' is just that, stuff. It too will pass, and the broken items will be replaced, or like me, repaired. The wife is enjoying the small town, and the son is in seventh heaven. He's got a library a short block away, and a family restuarant a short block the other way. It serves the "best bacon cheeseburgers in the world" according to him, so he's happy!
Me? Well, I've got a pair of Alpha's (2100's) to install and set up, and a cluster of three Alpha 600's to goof around on. What more can a guy ask for, especially when it ALL is a non production system (s) that I can tweek howsome ever I desire. One system has 270 (9gigX30) gigabytes h.d. space, and the other has 810 (9gigX90) gig of storage, 1024 meg of ram, and 2048 meg of ram respectively, 600's have 2 cpu's per node, and the 2100's have 4 cpu's per node, no users, (except a handfull of people to test applications on it), but only when I say 'go'.
Back to reading again! It's gonna take a month to catch up! Maybe Muhammod would consider a moritorium (on posting) for a week to give me a helping hand!
Whoa!!! wait a minute guys, I was just joshin'! REALLY!

Ye Gods, Scruffy! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

You've got enough disk and RAM at your disposal to store, well ... say, all of Bird's and Mark Chalkley's posts combined! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

It may not be of general interest to this board, but I would love to know what you are going to be doing with all that.

If you have any extra, feel free to send me a few terabytes. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
