Served USMC in the '60's, but retired from civilian government job. Lived in anchorage in the '80's, now on the Kenai Peninsula. I know a lot of people who, after living here for a couple of years, decided to go "back home". Usually they returned here within a year. There's a saying up here, if you decide to move to the lower 48 don't sell your house yet, because you'll probably be back.
So, what did you do when you were up there in the 80's?Served USMC in the '60's, but retired from civilian government job. Lived in anchorage in the '80's, now on the Kenai Peninsula. Yes I know that they are now JBER. They actually shared some things back when I was there, like the hospital. You could also go from base to post without having to go out on highway 1.I was working for the government in Anchorage and moved to the Kenai-Soldotna area in the early '90's when my job moved there.
Yeah, I know that stretch of highway; very long, straight, and most vehicles are doing 75mph or more since they raised the limit to 65.
You probably know that Elmendorf is now combined with Fort Richardson (JBER, joint base Elmendorf-Richardson).
