We're trying to determine how we can make this market more consumer/user friendly. As a start, we'd appreciate information from Yanmar owners and particularly PROSPECTIVE Yanmar owners. Please consider taking the survey on the lower left of our home page....thanks.

Wayne,

I have to say that I normally don't take survey's but this one was very different.

Not the slightest hint of money or marketing, but more a genuine concern for a grey market owner and a perspective buyer, focused on their needs, safety concerns and after the sale support...plus much more.

I highly recommend to anyone that owns, has owned or is thinking about buying a Yanmar or any grey market tractor to check it out.

Yes take the survey, it only took a minute and some real good question like Mark said. Wayne you and the other dealers keep up the good work. Robert

Robert, Yep. How many times have these questions been discussed here, at a dealer or with an owner of a grey market tractor? For example: ..."How important is:"

English Language Decals?
Price?
Price Savings over a New Tractor?
Price Inventory?
New Paint Jobs?
ROP's?

Just to name a few. Someone is asking the right questions in this survey. The same questions you ask yourself before (and after) you buy a tractor.

I seldom (if ever) post a link to anything in my responses but this time I'm very curious as to what other members have to say.

I too thought it was a good survey. The only thing is that obviously, I already bought one, so some of these things were not critical for my purchase. I did have to do alot of homework before hand. My point is, the survey might get better reuslts(accurate)if the prospective buyers and owners could be separated. Great idea though... The single best thing that could be done IMO is better availability of info, like the central website of dealers.
Thanks,
Greg

I took the survey and agree it could help with the most important part of the "Grey Market" trade and that is "credibility."

Personally, before I purchased my YM2420, I felt that the credibility of the dealer was extremely critical and I am happy to say I found that in the dealer I selected. I know there are several "Grey Market" dealers on this list that display that trait of credibility daily and right here for all to see and I think that is admirable.

Thanks,

Ron

Hey Greg, I agree, but when I was taking it I thought back about when I was looking to buy, it helped me answer. Wayne if it don't cost to much, or one of the other dealers might look at a survey for after you by. and Mark I don't usually take surveys either, but I thought this one might help us all. Thanks Robert

I also liked the survey even though it was Yanmar specific. I own 2 other grey market tractors but am planning on replacing them with Yanmars. I had to answer NO to the question about presently owning a Yanmar even though I'm not new to grey market tractors.

Eugene,

Good Point.

Although since very few dealers import Yanmar only, I read it as more generic in nature. But your right, all questions did say Yanmar grey market tractor.

The one question on the survey that I think we would all appreciate if available would be English language labels.

I've have someone from another forum working on trying to translate the label on my tractor. IF suscessful, I'll post them somewhere.

I tried this once before, the person was Japanese, spoke English well but knew nothing about farm equipment. There were a number of characters they didn't recconise and said they were Chinese. While the characters might have been Chinese it's more likely it was a term related to the equipment.

I have translated labels, but they are for the PTO shield and FEL only. I have yet to obtain, or see ANY well translated decals for the operator controls.

I have heard often, the same about Japanese decals being too vague of generalized in the translation.

I think this was brought up again in the second survey (?).

The Japanese language is made up of Chinese characters. Send me a photo of what you want translated. I will take it to Japan with me and have it translated for ya.

Mickey,
No offence here, but personally, I really dont care if I can read the instructions, unless its in the owners manual /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.. This is my opinion of course, but they should be basic knowledge(IE: lable by the PTO probably means PTO /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif). Again, I dont mean to single you out or demean anyones desire for info. IMHO I would rather the concentration on dealer networking and info/parts availability to help my decision to buy. The stickers to me would just be a nice to know item.

Mickey is a retired HP. engineer, and engineers gotta find out what makes everything tic. I can see his point, thats why we replace all the decals with english ones on our machines.
He is also a civil war history buff, and a very interesting person to talk to.

If you were addressing me Buck, the person I have working on my labels has a Japanese wife and he is a tractor guy. Right now she is on an extended trip to Japan. If the offer still holds and if I have any problems I might want to take you up on the offer. I was aware some characters are the same for both Chinese and Japanese and that I said one needs to know something about the equipment to better understand the meaning of the unfamiliar characters.

Thanks for the comments Ernie and yes my needs are due to the desire to know what the factory labels say and not due to a real need to be able to read for operation of the tractor.

If I were to do a complete paint job on the sheet metal, it would be nice to have a fresh new set of English labels to replaced the old, faded, damaged original ones.

Like I said, I didnt want to ruffle feathers with my comment. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif It would definitly be nice to have english decals. That wouldnt keep me from buying one though.

My point was more to make sure we dont loose sight of service and availability of parts. If the dealer network was larger and you could do a search on Yanmar tractors in the US and get all the info you need to find a dealer in your area, we would all benefit from it. The decals could be available on the web sites too /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sorry if I didnt word it right..

ROPS for me was the big issue.I bought knowing that ROPS for my mod. Yanmar would be out soon. I wouldn't have bought another brand. Support of parts & integrity of the dealer.
