Danger of grill brushes identified

Posted: 28 Mar 2012 11:28 AM PDT

Physicians have identified a number of cases of accidental ingestion of wire grill brush bristles that required endoscopic or surgical removal.

Lets be careful when brushing the goop off the grill as metal bristles might stick to grill and end up in your throat or worse.

A bit more info:
Danger of grill brushes identified

Seems that these cases resulted from the grills being cleaned with wire brushes and some wires broke off (and stuck to the grill). The wires adhered to the meat being (subsequently) cooked. When the meat was eaten, the wires were also ingested.

One more thing to worry about.

All it would take is one fragment of a wire bristle to stick to one little area less than hygienic and subsequently gets on/in a bite of food to ruin your day, get you sued, or worse.

Apparently it happens frequently enough to cause a mention in ScienceDaily news writeup.

Don't people CHEW anymore? It would have to be a vewy, vewy tiny piece of wire to escape my chomp-detection;-)

Use a stick and hold the meat over a wood fire. Solves all them problems!

Sounds like an excuse not to clean the grill
