if I could weld.... my tractor would be scarede
/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif yeah mine too ! but I gotta learn it - there are just too many reasons/projects I want for me not to learn - and there's no way I can afford to pay somebody to do all of 'em - I'd keep a welder busy for a full season working on 'em for me. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Re: Limited usefulness

I would not have a tractor without a grill guard. Consider it cheap insurance. Its not the trucks I might load which I don't, besides, there are other beefy parts that will stop the tractor well before the sheetmetal or (plastic) on mine, but go into a pile of brush with stumps etc. and one will wipe out the front end so fast way before you can get the clutch in and the brakes to stop. The guard will help prevent that. As mentioned, you can always fabricate more bars or expanded metal if needed. I tore the front end up on a grilleless NH 2120. Was being very careful and then a 6 " log came up. Front sheet metal was bent to heck. I never saw it. I can't believe it does not come stock on NH, it should. Get one or make one, what will it hurt? I got the Allied FEL with my 33 instead of a NH...The Allied comes with a grill guard...Cost for FEL was $1200.

Newbie mistake, of course, but me and mine had an unintentional interface with the burn pile while uploading an illegal stump:

Translation: I drove over the damned thing....

Anyway, had to replace the grill, since I couldn't stand to look at it, and picked up the grill guard to prevent the same from occuring again, although I normally invent new ways to do the same old stupid things which the prevention won't prevent. We'll see...

Anyway, looks good to me, though I probably should get the extruded metal welded on, since the next killer, if I pay attention, should be a spear!

What has gotten me -- more than once now -- is backing off a pile or backing over brush just lying around - and having something pop up and poke me from under and behind - I never see it coming - so far I've busted a water hose (twice) power steering lines, clutch lever (under the pedal), and almost the loader disconnects. Caught that one just as it was coming up. If it wasn't for the skid plate I put on - I'd probably get poked even more.

Ah, well, it was bought as a working tool, not a display item, and so wear must be expected.

Stilll, I wish the idiot operator was a bit more inventive....

I refuse to even consider the impact of your experiences: I need to get the wood in!

Only slightly off-topic.

Was trying to find a way to reinforce my bucket edge and a bolt-on cutting edge was recommended. Guess I was kinda floored when they said $150 for this 6' long hunk of steel with holes drilled in it!! I originally thought my NH grill guard, which is truly an engineered and relatively complicated piece of work, was expensive! Any thoughts on why a plain jane bolt on edge would cost so much???

dealer list is $179.61 cost is $134.71 on a 72" cutting edge for your tractor. It is reversible and comes with the bolts, it is beveled and hardend so it is more than just a hunk of steel. I am not saying its not pricey just letting you know that its not just a hunk of steel.

Re: Limited usefulness

Ok lets down size this a little. Anybody out there know where I can get a grill guard for a TC29? Apparently New Holland doesn't offer one for the Class II Boomers.
