Grill Guard

Since I finished up the BH sub frame I decided to add some expanded mesh to the brush guard. Here's a few pics. Paint is drying now so will install back on tractor tomorrow and post an installed pic then.

I did the same thing last year to my guard. Well worth the time and effort. It has saved my radiator at least 3 times that i saw. Who knows how many times I didnt notice. Nice work there!

Nice job, what spec mesh did you use? My metal vendor only carries 4X8ft sheets so trying to figure best material for the job.

Not sure of the mesh. I bought it at a steel yard in a 3' x 3' sheet. The steel yard sells what they call short steel. It's new leftover steel that was cut off from bigger pieces. The 3x3 probably came from a 4x8 sheet. He had light stuff but this was the heavy stuff. I was there buying some 1/2" x 4" flat steel for my BH frame and saw the expanded metal at the end of the row so grabbed it. It's very heavy duty. Cut it to basic shape with an air cut off tool. Bending the edges was hard. Had to clamp the mesh between 2 pieces of steel on the bend marks then clamped the metal in a vise and hammered it down. Once I had all the 90* edges bent I set one end on a 6x6 and stood on it to get the curve to match the brush guard curve. Fit the mesh in place and welded it inside.

Working on my LS XR4046HC grill guard now as well. Putting the expanded metal on tractor side of the grill guard. Will post pictures when it's done.

Wonder what the vertical slots on sides of the GG are for?

When I put my mesh on I made sure it is clear of the slots on the GG. I don't know what they are for either. LS must have had some purpose in mind when designing it.

Could the slots be for an extension that goes over the hood. Loosen the bolts and let it slide down and fold back to get the hood open.

On the LS XRs the grill guard is not in the way of opening the hood. Raise the FEL, open hood and you have really good access to front of tractor.

On my New Holland TL100A, the grill guard folds forward to give you access to hood, battery, radiator, etc.

Extension. You could add on to it to cover the hood. Then the extension folds back.

Very nice work, and it may save your rad, etc.

I added the same thing to my Kioti DK35 this year, but not before punching in the fine mesh in the front of the hood three times. I punctured the battery the third time and finally added protection. The guard already has a couple of scratches from working with brush piles.

I got the idea on Tractorbynet and my dealer made the guard.

Could you take a picture of the D rings on the side of the frame? I have been trying to come up with something to bolt to those four holes for tie down. Is that what you use them for?

I drilled the brush guard and mounted the D-rings for tie down points. There are 4 holes on each side of the frame but they won't line up with the D-rings mount holes unless you elongate the holes. the brush guard is plenty strong and is bolted to the frame with 4 grade 10.9 metrics.

Yes that is a nice job. Can tell you took your time and did a good job. I bet it was fun bending the edges over but to me it looks better the way you did it.

As mentioned in post 4 it was hard to bend that thick mesh but it was worth it in the end for a clean look. Here's a couple pics of it back on the tractor.

Did you use the "Sail Blue" paint. Look like a good match.

hey nice job looks strong. May I ask you what is that bolt with big washer in the middle of the loader support tube next to the front hydro lines.

Yes I did use Sail Blue Rustoleum. Not exact but close enough.
