Grinding Iced Drive

Deal with ice every year here, ashes are ok, next is that fine traction sand, next is salt, salted coarse gravel best.

I've never had luck with tearing up the ice, I find the ice dust it produces makes it ever more slipery.

Always cover a salted sand pile, they wash out over the summer if left open. A spinner is nice to have to save material, the bucket just wastes it when spreading.

I'm thinking of welding a pair of small 100 lb hoppers and spinners onto our 6 ft snowblower. Should last through several driveways. I usually do a few per storm.

Scotty,

I should have thought of the splitter /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Doubt it would work as a jack-hammer but just dragging that 8' of steel I-beam up and down the drive would probably dig through any ice /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif!

Patrick,

WALK /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif !!! Thought if you had to get off the tractor you just didn't have enough attachments /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif.

This winter is so strange that I may well have to do hand sanding. No one had any small crushed stone that wasn't frozen like a rock.

All that ice got rained off with 45 deg. weather Friday and Saturday, leaving us in an early "Mud Season". By Saturday evening it was freezing rain, sleet, snow. By Sunday morning it was 8 deg.'s and we had a few inches of snow (in the ruts!). -4 deg. this a.m.. More rain, sleet, and ??? and 40's coming in for Tuesday night. Maybe it's time for a trip to AZ /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
