In order to keep everyone from having to read the volumes of posts on the thread regarding my tractor making the terrible grinding noise, I've written this post as promised.

After many requests, on 2/24/07 the dealer service manager finally provided me with a service report for what they did to my tractor in December.

As said previously, they changed a bunch of o-rings. I thought they changed the type of hyd. fluid, but the report fails to indicate so and I'll ask the question of the service manager. It seems important to me that I know what fluid is in the tractor...

Here is the report of parts replaced:
1 - 33-91731 adhesive $4.33
2 - 83965317 o-ring $0.88
1 - 87300046 filter, hyd $14.04
1 - 9624655DS oil, hyd. ($2.94, so it wasn't a complete change)
1 - C12P 5/8 - 3/4 hose clamp $0.41
1 - C20P hose clamp $0.42
1 - P0301-630 Bolt $0.10
1 - SBA052100160 o-ring $0.72
1 - SBA052100200 o-ring $3.41
1 - SBA052300250 o-ring $0.72
1 - SBA052300350 o-ring $0.63
1 - SBA340500890 filter, hyd $16.13
1 - SBA340708150 Tube, rigid $125.75
1 - SBA398120870 connection, 3 way $11.825

Labor:

R&R connector 1.5 hrs
R&R tube 1.5 hrs
replaced o-rings 1.5 hrs
replaced o-rings 1.5 hrs
R&R filter 0.3 hrs
disassembled and resealed pump 2.5 hrs
resealed trans to center hsg. 6.4 hrs
R&R o-rings 0.4 hrs

total parts 182.31
total labor 1291.00
Total $1473.31

Sound like a fix to you folks? The tractor has performed properly, with no bad noises, since December. My only beef now is with the dealer and the customer service. I hope to not have to go back, except to find out what kind of fluid they supposedly put in it.

That shure doesn't give alot of detail does it . Maby a dealer or service tech understands that but I dont, do you. They dont say if they were working on the hyd. pump or the trans. Maby they dont want you to know.

I really don't get a good feeling that they determined what was wrong. The answer to my question of why a service report was taking so long, from the dealer service manager was, "between the NH rep and myself, we'll have to do some creative writing."

Not the answer I was looking for. I'm still going to ask for an extension on my warranty, for at least the time it was in their shop, (>1 mo.) I'm appeased at this point, (which I really believe was their goal). I'm still concerned with long term issues, and or damage due to cavitation or lack of fluid in some part of the system. Until I get a legitimate answer, I'll keep asking quesitons. My next call is to the NH service rep. I don't think the dealer service manager is taking my concerns seriously. Then, I'll call the headquarters again...too much money involved for me to just accept what I'm getting.

What they are trying to tell you is they are going to cover it under warrenty even though it may not be that is why he said he and the factory rep were going to do some creative writing! Have done that a few times at our dealership. they could have just told you it was not a warrenty issue and billed you for the repair at least they are trying to help.

I would suggest we keep comments about "creative writing" off of the website.
If bean counters etc happen to see that, the dealer could get into trouble and the claim rejected.
I don't mean to sound gruff, but some things are better off left to secrecy.
Sometimes we forget that people other than ourselves read this board.

Why don't you print out the attached diagram and take it with you to your dealer to discuss your repair. Try to make it as easy as possible for him to describe what they did. Remember, he doesn't get paid under warranty for "discussion time with customer." I think you should be gracious and grateful. If that won't get it, then you probably would not have received much of an explanation anyway.

About the diagram...

The yellow line that starts at ref. 3 is the suction line from the reservoir. It splits at the "T" and goes to the booster pump at the front of the HST. It comes out of the pump on the pink line and goes up to the cooler. From the cooler, it returns to the HST filter along the blue line. You may notice a valve at the top of the HST filter (ref 8). If the oil is cool or the cooler is clogged, the oil will bypass. It takes only 17 psi for this to happen and is why some folks hear a clicking when their tractor is idling. From the filter, the blue line continues back an goes to the rabbit/turtle solenoid at the side of the HST transmission and also up into the transmission casing behind the HST. It feed thru the flange into the HST pump. When the oil exits the HST it follows the yellow line at the top back to the reservoir.

That's the HST flow. The main hyd pump at ref. 4 draws oil from the same reservoir as the HST, but it's plumbing is not shown in this diagram.

I hope this helps you understand the circuit some.

Jinman, Where did you get a copy of that diagram? I have been looking for one that shows the plumbing for mid mount valve and diverter valve.

That is from the New Holland Repair Manual. I added the color highlighting myself. I posted that to TBN several years ago and just linked to it in this thread because those old attachments never go away. Since the time I posted that, I have reread forum rules and reconsidered the implications of posting copyrighted material on TBN. I will not post anything new here.

However, if you send me a PM with your private email address, I will try to get you the info you need outside of TBN.:)

The NH website has a parts illustration feature that includes drawings for most items. Go to the site, select parts and services, and type in the model. This may not give you the detail you need, though.

I've had my diverter valve apart tonight and can't find anything wrong. Tomorrow I'm leaving work early and stop by my dealer. The parts break down off the website doesn't give a clear picture. thanks for all your help.
