I've been told that the 3-point lift on the back of a tractor works great for pulling shallow well points. What is the trick to gripping the pipe? Will a chain wrapped around the shaft of the pipe tighten as its pulled or will it just slip?

I'll be doing this at 6:00am tomorrow. Just looking for ideas on how to grip that pipe.

A chain and a slip hook will grip a pipe well. Wrap several turns of chain around the pipe with the hook on the lower turns. Then place the hook on the last / highest loop. Otherwise the chain will spin the pipe. Useful, if spinning the pipe is what you want.

Put an elbow or a Tee on the top to lift the first section. Then lift at the couplings by wraping with a chain. I used the loader to lift my pipe and didnt have too much problem....not sure with limited lift of the 3 point linkage.

I ended up using the skidsteer. Didn't seem to matter how I wrapped the chain. It gripped. Took less than 5 minutes to pull the point!
