Back in the day ... Used to be that Americans had a pretty good sense of humor & could take good natured ribbing or understood a joke for what it was (whether they agreed & thought it was funny or not.) In many ways, it was the humor that unified us as Americans. Even the old Soviet Union & Eastern Block countries had tremendous dark humor that wasn't officially sanctioned but got a good chuckle out of just about anyone that wasn't totally brainwashed by the propaganda of the State. Seems the good old US of A is headed down this path where a joke will result in you being sent to gulag for re-education. As someone whose family escaped communism & State sanctioned thought in 1948, all I can say is good luck with that & you have a lot to learn America. Thought control & propaganda work until they don't, then there is no control over the outcome.

Reminds me of an eastern European joke from the 70's ... A Polish fisherman pulled up an old oil lantern in his net. As he was rubbing it to clean it so he could get a better look, a Genie appeared & told him he was granted three wishes. When asked for his first wish, the fisherman quickly responded, "I want China to invade Poland with the full strength of its army." The genie thought this odd but agreed, then asked for the second wish. Again, the fisherman quickly responded, "I want China to invade Poland with the full strength of its army." The genie, though perplexed, agreed, and asked the Pole for his final wish. With a huge smile, the fisherman quickly responded, "I want China to invade Poland with the full strength of its army." The genie granted this final wish as well, then asked the Pole why he wanted Poland invaded by China 3 times when the full strength of the Chinese military would destroy the country with only 1 invasion. Simple, replied the Pole. For the Chinese to invade Poland 3 times, they will need to invade & cross Russia 6 times.

Unless we want those types of jokes being told where rural states are substituted for Poland and California/New York/DC are substituted for Russia, we need to get over ourselves & get our sense of humor back. Stop reading nefarious intent into every joke & take it for what it is. If you don't have a sense of humor, don't read the jokes, if you are so sensitive that everything is mortally offensive, have a long talk with your parents about the disservice they did (to you and this country) while raising you ... seems pretty simple to me.
We still have a good sense of humor; it's just that there's nothing funny any more. If you want to see something funny, you have to watch some of the old reruns of the Carol Burnette show or clips of Johnny Carson or the Smother's brothers.

This whole topic: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

It's about the government letting websites set their own rules, but let's just go after the guys who enforce them. ;)

meanwhile the Covid card thread is on page 11 but it’s pretty much just making fun of anyone with opposing views so it’s GTG.

You didn't have to read it. That is the point. If you don't like what's in there then ignore it and let others that do enjoy it. This world we have now of constant censorship trying not to offend someone gets tiring.
The Forum Rules very clearly state what is allowable on TBN. I for one appreciate coming here and not having to listen to the political, current events, or religious discussions. I like to keep it about tractors. There are thousands of other places to discuss non-tractor stuff. Personally I would get rid of any forum that isnt related to tractors or machinery but this is not my forum. Yes I enjoy the DIY stuff and cooking and guns…but there are other places for those things on the internet. I can be a member of all of them!

Also sometimes the title of a thread has nothing to do with politics, but someone posting finds a way to make it as such, getting that thread shut down. How does that help the OP?

Bottom line its not about offending someone…its about people not following the fundamental guidelines that were outlined when they joined. Those guildelines arent there to censor. They are there to keep it about tractors and machinery.

Then those specific posts should be removed instead of killing the thread. If you only want to read about tractors then stick to the posts and subgroups about tractors.

Are the moderators paid for their work? I'm under the impression that it is a volunteer position. As such, I'm not inclined to complain about how they do it.

If a thread gets locked, and it's a popular topic, then someone can create the next generation of the thread, and people seem to be better behaved for a while. It doesn't seem like a terrible system to me.

I'm also puzzled by the insistence that some people have about bringing politics into TBN, when TNT has been promoted for that very purpose. If your post is not a criminal act, you can say about whatever you want over there.

It kind of reminds me of a cat we used to have that refused to use the litter box. She preferred to crap in a more pristine environment, that didn't smell like crap.

Exactly. And removing something, someone without explaining why is not good. This is the third time it happened, i visited the threads every day and never saw anything that out of line.
