The gas formed by mixing amonia and chlorine is called "chlorimine" and is deadly to humans as well. If you use this method be very careful. The "gopher bombs" sold at Farm King are very effective and the smoke will help you find gopher holes you never knew existed.

A 22 can dispatch a ground hog but I'd make sure of clean shots and if it drops, immediately place another clean shot to the head. Ground hogs took over our barn and neighbors garden and I had to knock off a few varmits. USE hollow points. If you hit one and it crawls off to die it'll stink for a while until the 'possoms etc find the body.
Shotguns and bows can do the job but you gotta be still since the hogs have great eyes...Use a treestand and safety belt.

My brothers old tractor recently found a nice tunnel inside the barn. He at first thought he had a flat.

Good News, Canada is coming to the rescue again.
This was just on this evening news.
Zoo Keepers at the Toronto Zoo have just complete a very sucessful breading program which raised hundreds of ferrets.
They were raised on a diet of Ground Hogs in preparation for release into the wild.
Upon hearing this your wild life official requested and received several shipments by Air Canada which were dispatched to Utah, Texas and South Dakota.

Perhaps you can try this approach yourself. Apparantly they also make excellent pets.

on my place, humane is not a factor(boy am i going to get some responces ) all i want to do do i get rid of the suckers, woodchucks, chipmunks, squirles. you should see what one red squile did to our front porch last year. so i shoot them, burn them and will even run over them if i get the chance. my opinon? get rid of them any way u can.

I place sweet cantaloupe rinds inside my wire trap and finish them off with a .22 CB Cap – a deadly combination, extremely aromatic and effective. I wouldn’t think of releasing one on some unsuspecting neighbor.

Good call./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif When I was a kid I used to generate Chlorine gas with bleach and "Santiflush". Made some really nice crystals that formed in the brew. Caught the Chlorine gas by water displacement and dumped it outside, except once./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I never had much luck with the mole/gopher bombs. I think they are basically the five oxides of nitrogen and don't penatrate the deep holes very well.

yep, ferrets make excellent pets/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. They're fearless and love to tunnel. In our home we substituted pvc pipe for them/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif. I would like to mention to anyone considering a ferret for this use, don't bring one home from the pet store and release it. A domesticated ferret does not have a good chance of survival in the wild. Your post mentions that these ferrets were raised by professionals for this purpose.Thanks
