Please don't laugh. This is a "concept build" to prove my idea. All this stuff was just pulled outta the scrap pile and will be redone now that I know it will work.
I have built many dump thingies over the years ( trailers, site dumpers and even a dump truck) and really didn't see the need for expensive hydraulics or linear actuators for a small dump trailer for yard waste and the wife's fiddlings. I knew that if you could lock the wheels and get the balance right, simply using reverse to dump and a forward gear to bring the box back down, everything could be very simple.
I used an old WheelHorse tranny that wouldn't shift for the axle and brake. You put the tractor into reverse and pull the handle to release the box. When you back up...it dumps because the box is hinged with the weight to the rear. As the box moves upwards, it pulls a tension spring and locks the axle. Pulling forward lowers the box and releases the brake. A similar arrangement could be made with a bar that locks the wheels by pressing it against the tires.
Anyway...it's another idea for you builders.
