I have a large garden this year that is doing very well, so far that is. Last year the deer ate all my peas and beans. Plants would grow a little and a couple deer would go down the rows and eat everything. This year I have put up an electric fence with wires at every height and so far no deer tracks. This morning my mother saw a ground hog standing up looking around at the garden. I know what they can do to a bean field so I'm going to put a trap out for it. What do I use to bait the trap?

I use apples seems to work pretty good , best bet would be a .22 well placed

If you can find his hole dig out the entrance a bit and fit a trap directly into the entrance. He'll have to go through it to get in or out of the hole. That eliminates the question of which bait to use from the equation. ;)

It also helps reduce the chance of Mr. Skunk or the neighbor's cat.

I vote the .22 and lead poisoning as most assured but you may be in area where not available or outlawed. Next best thing is as mentioned find hole, put in a CON-A-BEAR 220 trap, and cover with a hunk of plywood. Make sure trap is deep enough so it can trip still. my back barn has issues with them and it is my method if I can't get one out as they seem to migrate 4 counties over to get to that barn :/ Baiting them into a live trap is OK but you still then have to dispose of them and they can tear a trap of that type up pretty fast. Cost of the trap is about 4 or 5 times the conabear too which from what I've seen are nearly indestructible.

Really ripe pears seem to work well for me....

Apples and peanut butter. I use live traps because of the dogs. I have used the bow to dispose of them as well. Too many neighbors for a .22
