Group 4 oil?

you can use any oils you want as long as it passes the proper spec's..as I noted for about for 2+ years now.

If your post was "accurate and factual" then these cars are not seating piston rings correctly.
Not true. Perhaps they are seating their rings differently, using rings that don't need seating, boring the cylinders differently, seating them after engine manufacturer and before it's installed in the vehicle, etc. Lots of possible explanations other than them doing it 'incorrectly'.

My apologies for getting inadvertantly sucked into a discussion about cars. I have little interest or expertise in Cobras, Vipers and Mercedes Benz. I was referring to diesel tractor engines and the recommendations of their manufacturers. Me thinking this is a compact tractor discussion site and all. I defer to your vast body of autombile knowledge. I will continue to recommend folks DO NOT drain breakin oil from tractor crankcases until the operator's manual specifies.

so far, no manual I have even had ever states that "break in" oil was or is installed. Change when you see fit.

That advice applies to more than diesel tractors.

The Acura RSX has an admonishment in the owner's manual to NOT change the oil that is shipped with the car until 10,000 miles.

I believe (but am not positive) that the VW TDI says the same thing, except 5,000 miles.

What will happen if you do? Probably nothing. But I would imagine that if you go back to the dealer later with oil consumption woes, they might try to deny warranty coverage.

knowing Ford and others, I doubt that. Plus unless the rings and bore (and piston) are a matched set, which I highly doubt due to the manufacturing processes, that are normal rings.

When I had my Powerstroke there was nothing in the manual since we are taking about diesels. My BX says zero also. Same goes for my wifes Ml-420 and my Lexus.

Is the TDI not a diesel?

#1 it is not a diesel tractor engine and #2. if you think a diesel CAR engine breaks in, in 5K miles. Wow. it must be a fast break in engine. When I had my powrstroke many users stated that it was not broken in till over 20 to 30K miles. This was based on oil consumption (when it slowed or stopped).

Some people like making this real complicated, or like arguing, or can't differentiate opinion from fact, think their experience applies to everyone else, or whatever. It's real simple. Follow your Owner's Manual. If it says let the oil the factory put in for so many miles/hours, let it in. If it doesn't say anything, do whatever you want.
