When I demonstrated a D35 and in my new D40, the differential really "growls" when I individually brake to tighten a turn. I have not seen this in other equipment I have operated. Would you resident experts consider this to be normal??

This is just a shot in the wind but when you did this was the differental lock engauged? Mine on my 364 will do that, tried this after your post, but won't if the lock isn't engauged. Hope this helps, Dave /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As a follow up, I have polled a few other owners and all state that this is absolutely normal. It seems to be diminishing with use as well.

Guidster, when I read the title of your post, I somehow knew the model tractor you were talking about. When my NH TC45D was new it made the same sound. It's the wet brake, not the differential. After about 150 hours, the binding sound goes away when you press on the brakes. It just takes awhile to get broke in. That's especially true of a hydrostatic model where you don't use the brakes much. I agree with you that your "symptoms" are completely normal.

Thanks Jinman for the confirmation. It sure is unnerving to hear such a sound on a new tractor--hence my apprehension.
