Hey yall. I am trying to clear some land to build a home on. I have gotten rid of the bigger trees and stumps but have a bunch of annoying small trees 1 and 2 inch trees that still need pulling up. What tool have yall found to work fastest or most efficiently to remove small trees?

How would a ratchet rake do with this vs. spending $1800 on a root rake for the dozer?

I have a rock grapple bucket on FEL and box blade with extra long rippers on the 4110 mahindra now. Both of those are helpful.

Their was a post about a guy who welded some flat mating surfaces on his grapple so he could pull stuff as small a vines. Seems the flat surface was only 6-12” long- not the entire width of the grapple.

My grapple, without mod, works well in the 1-2” range but I’m having to dig into the soil a bit with the teeth.

Thanks for the info. We have grapple on the FEL but it’s not a root grapple. It’s more of a rock grapple. It has been extremely handy though anyway.

Try to find that post. From what I recall he welded some heavy wall square or “L” metal between two of his teeth.

I have the same problem. I have areas of pasture that have gone wild and need to get them back. I just cleared out about 300 trees in the 1 to 4" range using a Tree/Post puller for the tractor. Mine is by LandPride and is the STP-25 on the Kubota Mx5200. It ripped them up roots and all. I made piles and then went back and grabbed them with the grapple. One pulls them out and lays them flat and the other picks them up and gets rid of it all. You won't get much bigger than 4" but it rips out old small pines, sumac, oaks just fine. I was planting some and didn't want the tons of roots there when I went back with the tiller. The W.R. Long grapple has the ability to get under and rip roots to which is helpful.

Update: Thanks to all who have replied! I bit the bullet and bought a root rake for the dozer. I borrowed a landscape rake from my brother to pile up some loose sticks and saplings. There still remains quite a few saplings with attached roots so as soon as I can get my welder out there and weld the brackets on I’ll get some update pictures.
