Saturday is the big day. I have a few trees cut down, bigger ones (6-10" trunks) I left 4' tall...smaller ones are short stumps which should come up easily. I'll be level left to right, but the incline is probably 10 degrees +. Working from the lower side with the backhoe makes sense to me for some reason...loader on....FEL bucket down....leading edge down a bit maybe(?).
After grubbing, I'll be using the FEL, and/or rear blade to remove enough soil to have the road bed slightly lower than the surrounding grade, to keep any water within the road (it won't ever be much)...I'm assuming I should work downhill for this...I also have access to a 48" BB which may be better than the rear scrape.
Any pointers for a newie would be greatly appreciated!

I am doing some grubbing with my BX23 for a barn. I am clearing a small road to it which includes stumping Maples up to about 10" and stripping brush and about 18" of beautiful loam. I am working on a cross slope to get to it and I did not really think about how I was going to do it, but just went at it. I find that I have done almost all of my work up hill. Working down hill I find it difficult to cut out the soil I need to. Additionally, it just feels more comfortable leaning back in the seat than it does feeling like you're sliding out. Plus, when I scoop up a full bucket I feel I have more control turning the machine on the slope to dump when I am facing up hill. Facing down hill it feels pretty hairy when one of the front tires finds a soft spot.

Ultimately you've got to be flexible enough to work from all sides since the roots will be going everywhere. During the BH stage it doesn't really matter but while dragging the stump away or grading material it is best to use gravity to your advantage since pulling a ton of dirt is easier than pulling a ton of dirt and pushing a ton of tractor up hill.
