Tractor
John Deere and Case
Hello Everyone, glad to be here ! Today is the day I pick up a 1992 john Deere 855 4wd tractor with the factory loader .I recently purchased several acres of land and we are building a new home and starting an apple orchard in the foot hills of east Tn . The driveway is in and a I have been clearing all the brush and under growth for the last year using a Case 446 with a small loader it was a good little tractor but no where near what I need and I found my "new to me " tractor and after some days of negotiating today is the day to pick it up ! It is a locally owned tractor and comes with all the books and service records from the dealer it was purchased from new , Any info as to what to watch for or special maintenance I should be aware of PLEASE LET ME KNOW ,The 855 looks and runs well and appears to be well taken care of BUT I know each machine has it's own needs and you all have way more experience than I do running and maintaining it the right way and I would appreciate any info I can get ,I'm SURE you will see me in here daily seeking info and ideas and I have all the equipment to fabricate just about anything ,I have access to a cat 941 b for the really heavy work and I think this tractor should work just fine for the rest of what I am doing , tree work /dragging logs /firewood /and a lot more brush clearing:cool2:

Welcome from Oklahoma. Congratulations on your new purchase. I don't know much about green tractors, but if you go to the JD Owning Operating forum you can probably find out more about your 855 than you want to know.

Welcome to the forum. The 855 is a pretty good little unit. Unless you know the previous owner and his service record, I'd go on and do a full oil-change, service inspection. If you have brush to clear on control, you may want to consider a Ratchet Rake or some other tooth bar for the loader. It makes pulling out brush a breeze on a small tractor. Have fun.

Welcome to TBN

I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome and for the times you all will be reading my posts and saying to yourself " Whats grumpy gotten himself into this time ? Does he ever stop with all these projects ? " You will see that I come from the old school of thought that just because a tractors 20 years old does not mean it should not work the way it did brand new OR BETTER ! and I keep all my toys in the best condition I can .I read one thread "in the woods " ? I believe from obed and will try to entertain you all in like fashion by sharing some of the trials and tribulations of self building a property , Home /out buildings and orchard ! The man I traded the 855 from ( thats right I TRADED MY CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE FOR THE 855 ) was a real country gentlemen and I think I saw a tear in his eye when I loaded the tractor . He cleaned the tractor ,changed the oil and all filters and greased everything before I picked it up ,also gave me 2 cases of hydrive and a case of oil along with an extra set of filters he had for the 855 , I will post some pictures asap ,Thanks again everyone !

:thumbsup:Grumpy old man
