I'm not sure, but I have heard in the past that a fully synthetic could allow needle bearings to skate, causing them to wear prematurely. Also for a short run time, it seems like it would be a waste. I'm no chemist though, just my opinion..

I personally do not know how much his “maintenance” cost is since he never stated it nor what it includes. Without running a test I do not know what issues are with the oil (that is where the test comes in); that is why I state the fuel, low TBN, high TAN (or higher), low ZDDP, lower Ca, should have high Al, Cu, Lb, etc. But without knowing for sure, I am guessing.
I do not know chemical here. Only a M.E.

As far as using the old oil etc in the cars it is a yes/no answer. Unless you buy cheap O2 sensors, I know mine are around $250 each (need 3) my price. Retail is about $350 to $390 each.
You will see high level in an oil test since the burning process has more “stuff” in it. Also I would expect to see more sludge on EGR or PVC here. Also more deposits on plugs and rings.

As you know , these small engines have run for many years on dino .I just thought (in my case) it would benifit the small engine to run 30 wt syn. oil over dino.Wouldn't the ash & what ever these other things are also be of concern with dino oil, or were you speaking of dino when you listed these items?

Mike , I know what you are talking abuot when you say real synthetic oil. You set me straight on this once when I asked you about super tech syn. oil. I found out it performed no better than dino oil in an oil test. I an now (at this time anyway) using mobil 1 e. p. I may try amsoil after I have a test done on the mobil. I do see that amsoil went up in price a bit.

Must be a Lexus thing, Ford O2 sensors for lincoln (@165k)= $75 each(Ford/Bosch OEM) Subaru (@ 200k) = $21 (Bosch). I suppose I could get mil spec ones.........Burned dino oil in both vehicles. Mileage above was first change, not really sure either vehicle needed them changed either. No EEC code on them. Nor did I notice a performance improvement.
Just stripped the subie engine down to replace gaskets and water pump, clutch. ZERO sludge at 200k with dino oil. Bearings, cam, etc look /measure ok too.
I had wondered about the O2 sensor / syn oil thing. Since syn oil does don burn up as easially as dino, wont more of the unburned oil go out the exhause to coat the sensor, whereas the dino oil will usually flash burn in the cylinder ?

Bosch = cheap. I would never buy Bosch or take them for free.
I only buy Denso parts since other parts do not hold up as well as the billion posts on Lexus and Toyota forums.
You can test them pretty simple. You should have about .5v start up. Now what you care about is how fast there change. If more then 30 seonds you need new sensors. Mine original sensors move in about 12 to 15s per my scanner.

What about the synthetic oil not burning up and going out the exhaust contaminating the O2 sensor, esp in higher mileage engines ?

Usually the Bosch sensors are not a direct oem replacement most times. There is slicing involved with connector ends. Get a bad crimp and then the good-old oxidation starts and lessen the volts going through them. Then if you need a Calif sensor you are talking more….
I would buy Walker long before Bosch. Oh, I email my inlaws and they told me a Bosch sensor is $62 (universal conn)and a Denso is $180(plug and play). So you are right Bosch is cheaper but I will stick to real OEM here.
This topic on other forums has come up with O2 sensor more times then oils. People shop for price and wonder why there gas mpg goes down sooner then OEM’s did. The cheaper ones are cheaper for a reason. You will not get Mil codes or DTC when O2 sensors go (most time unless it effects the ECS, MAF etc). They go very slowly. Most people do not test them and just buy them. To me, that is nuts. Mine are still fine & the snap-on scanner states the data.
