Hello All. I'm new here but i have a problem with our GT 5000 Yard tractor. we have arpx 3 acres of lawn to mow here and our GT 5000 has run flawlessly the past 5 years; however, this year it developed a intersting problem. It starts up fine but when it's warmed up it acts like it wants to die and then it gets a shot of gas and revs back up. so it cycles like it wants to die then fires back up. And when I kill it it backfires. Anyone out there heard of this? and the answer is yes I did run Ethanol added fuel in this guy without a fuel Stabelizer. Any direction would be great. I use this tractor to maintain this property(not mine) and I just recently inheritied the tractor to use. Any direction would be great. I just changed the Oil/Oil Filter, Air Filter, and Spark plug. I was going to do the fuel filter and full fuel system flush. Any help would be great.

Change the fuel filter as you plan because after 5 years, it's over due. Also, get some "sea foam" from your local auto parts store or Walmart and add 3 Ozs to your fuel tank. Keep us posted for further suggestions.

you didnt mention what motor, if it is a kohler, shut down should be at 3/4 throttle to prevent a backfire, not at low idle like you would think. also after adding the seafoam, try running with the choke slightly on to help with the running problem and give the cleaner a chance to work.
