Hi, just picked up a GT14 at an auction. Pretty nice condition with 700 hours. It does not run and seems to've been sitting for some time.

Fuel will not flow at all if the fuel cap is tight on the tank. If the cap is loosened, fuel will flow nicely to the low point in the line which is along the frame rail. It will not flow up to the injection pump. If I crank the engine, it will not pull fuel up to the injection pump, whether I have the bleed screw loosened or not.

How exactly does this model pump fuel? Is it exclusively from the injection pump? Does it have a mechanical lift pump? A manual priming pump?

Any advice, much appreciated.

Keith

It's working as it should. That cap vents through the cap. If you look in the rubber gasket there is a little rubber slot that allows air into the tank. If you crank that cap down like your baton ing down the hatch on a submarine it won't pull fuel. Of course the cap gasket may be gone? Post a pic but sounds like it works as it should.

There is no lift pump and the injector pump is gravity fed , it does not "suck" fuel from tank.

I see grooves cut in the threads of the cap and grooves cut in the threads of the tank. I guess that is what allows it to vent and that makes sense. But I do not under stand how it can gravity feed itself all the way to the injection pump. The tank sits under the seat and the injection pump is definitely higher than that at the engine.

On my 2210d, the tank sits under the hood, but higher than the injection pump.

Thanks, Keith

Yes, I've had to bleed the fuel system on my 2210 and other diesel engines numerous times. But looking this GT14 over in more detail, I've found a cut electric line down by the mower deck and what I thought was a fuel filter on the frame rail, is apparently an electric fuel pump. This makes sense as it is the low point of the fuel line. I don't know if this is factory or previous owner butcher. Either way, I'll have to try and get this all wired back up and maybe a new pump. Hopefully it will then work.

Thanks, Keith

The GT14 and YM146 have an electric fuel pump at the low point in the line, on the right hand side of the engine just below the frame
It apparently is not working. Check for a blown fuse and then test the pump to see if it is bad.
New ones are available or I have used ones.

You should post more often, Gary. We occasionally read about you coming up with hard-to-find parts for someone but very seldom hear from you.

I am wrong. I first read this as on of out old YM tractors. later saw it was a GT tractor and just assumed it was gravity fed like the other older ones. I am sorry.

We all make mistakes, I make more than most. :ashamed:

Yep they have an electric lift pump. They are in line with the chassis just infront of your right foot. It does sound like yours has an issue.

We may not hear from him much but he's around when we need him. Even to us down here in Australia.....

Thanks guys,

I just got back to this project after a couple days. I got the electric fuel pump wired up and was excited because I expected it to fire up. Well, it didn't.

I have excellent fuel flow to the top of the injection pump. I've verified this by opening the bleed screw. But I have no fuel at all coming out of the injection lines at the injection pump (let alone at the injectors). There is an inspection panel on the injection pump, which I opened and I can see the gear turning and the cam turning when the starter is turning.

I don't know why there isn't fuel pumping from the injection pump. Thoughts?

Thanks, Keith

This could apply. Injection Pump Won't Pump Fuel
