guard for hydraulic filter on 2210

I noticed that on my brother's 2210 and thought "what idiot designed this?" I told him to stay out of the woods with it or he'd be sorry...

I must admit, the filter and the hydro cooling fan could cause troubles. I was using my bush hog on a new 4 acre field. Started with the MMM on, but it kind of got in the way. Grass was taller than the hood, and the MMM was acting like a plow. So I decide to remove the MMM. When I got done and was cleaning the grass clipping, I notice the hydro fan was stained green and chipped slightly. The little hydro fan was doing it's own bush hogging with the tall grass. Luckily all the blades are intact.

Plus grass wrapped around filter.

because I don't have a MMM I think I'll design a skid plate for it. I will be getting my firewood with this tractor (my 6400 is too bulky)and want it protected. I skidded a couple of trees last night and it worked well, but I sure don't a stick to come up and wreck the filter again. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Wait until you peel the blades off that fan...Then the filter seems like a genuine bargain ! Now that I'm aware of it I'm just more carefull.

I went in to JD and bought all the supplies I needed for my 50 hour service on my 2210 and nearly fell over in shock when the guy told me the total! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

megotractor,

Just curious, what did your toppling act cost?

Coming up on 50 hrs. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

50 hour service consists of engine and hydraulic oil changes. I purchased 3 quarts engine oil and filter, and 3 and 1/2 gallons hydraulic fluid and filter; $68.oo /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

well I think I've designed by plate, now I just need to get off my rear and build it. I think if I go 20" I can cover both the filter and the fan. I don't want to go too much more because I think that will keep tooo much heat in the machine.

Make sure you post a picture of the guard. Maybe you could make some extra $$$ on e-bay.

JD2210:
I joined the "stick in the cooling fan" club. When my 2305 comes back from the dealer, I'll be wanting to add a skidplate for the fan/filter. Did you finish your design/installation? If so, care to share the details?
Thanks, Wayne
