Guess I under estimated a BX 1500

My B7100 has about the same HP as the BX1500. It is a little taller, and slightly heavier, but for intents and purposes is the same class machine. I continually am amazed at what you can do with these small machines. You just have to know your limitations.

Here it is moving an approx 500lb pallet of firewood:

Yes, a larger machine could move larger pallets, but this is still WAY better than a wheelbarrow.

One feature that the BX series has that I frequently jones for is power steering. That is one reason that I use the 3PH carryall to move the firewood instead of the pin-on loader fork that I just got. This thing is a real pain to steer when carrying a heavy load on the loader. Also, carrying the load on the rear is MUCH easier on the lawn, as the load is put on the much larger rear tires.

I have often thought that a BX would be a good way to replace both my B7100 and G1800 with one machine.

*The nice part about having more that one tractor is you get to use the attachments instead of always either attaching them to or removing them from the tractor.
If I were to replace my 3 tractors with just one tractor it would mean 3 times as many implements to attach and 3 times as many attachments to remove.

Never underesimate the power and determination of a BX. Mine thinks it's a D4 dozer at times! If I can have the dirt or stone placed near where I need it, I'm as quick as a bigger tractor. If I have to haul it any distance in the loader, well, it takes a while to move 18 yds of dirt 1/4 yard at at time!!!
Absolutely. No loader on mine. It would mostly get in the way by making the tractor bigger. We use ours in the woods as well as fields. Mowing and opening trails, sucking leaves at field edges in Fall... it will mow 1.5" stuff with the 54" mower, tow logs a foot in dia x 20 long. SMALL size and HST is a great benefit in the woods. In the fields we have used it to rake and bale, and pull the horsetrailer to pickup hay. -- Then run the hay elevator. Maneuver large equipment to park for storage. Mow 40 degree inclines [limit of traction 4wd and diff loc engaged]. 1300+hrs - beat up a bit - runs and acts like new [except the steering cylinder has to be dissassembled about every 700hrs to replace the oring in its piston. :( ]

Is this or the BX1500 only? I can move amazing amounts of stuff with my larger BX without counter balance.

To the op. the small series tractor Definatly serves a purpose. It is Definatly handy in confined locations.

Loaded tires (counter balance box) help keep the back wheels on the ground. The key to whether you have enough weight on the back is when you do FEL work in 2 wheel drive do you get good traction with your back wheels. If not you need more weight on the back. No amount of counter balance will prevent flip overs given the right (wrong) combination of circumstances. High FEL, turning on a slope, wheel dropping into a hole or soft spot. These are the most common causes I know of. Keep your seat belt on because it happens fast.

How good is the cell phone coverage in these types of vaults (storm shelters)? My fear would be that my family and I were safe inside when a large tree blocks the door making this a nice coffin box!

Good question Paul, I was wondering the same thing myself while we where checking the selter out. If it where mine I would let freinds and family know I was in the shelter so they could verify I made it out after the storm..

What's wrong here : No counter balance on the rear for the loader. Unsafe at any speed.

Gotta remember that the rear wheels are probably loaded. I know on my BX1500 they are.

I've had mine fully overloaded with topsoil, sand, and stone and NOT ONCE has it even come close to feeling tippy or losing traction.

I respectfully disagree on it being unsafe at ANY SPEED. If you keep it slow and don't be stupid, it will never give you a scare.

I agree...I've used my FEL without loaded tires and without the BH..As long as you don't get carried away it's perfectly fine...If you pick up a bucketload of mud you may have some trouble...
