but I doubt Sig would put out anything that would hurt their reputation.

They have.

Since becoming "Americanize", they've definitely had their ups and downs.

Some simple research on your end will find some of the issues they've had in the past.

Still produce some great guns though. My personal opinion is that they are trying too hard to keep up with the American market and offer too wide of a variety to appeal to everyone.

The Europeans I knew made what they wanted, made it the best product available, and if you didn't like it, you were stupid and they didn't care because people knew they made the best product out there LOL

Actually, take a look at Glock.

That's interesting about your daughter just now starting to shoot a hand gun,
not unusual for women to not be interested in firearms though. Do you think she would get her own or get a carry permit?

Where women are concerned I'm never surprised by anything.;) But I don't think she'd spend the money to get a CHL or buy a gun she could carry. You know in Texas it's legal to carry one in your car without a CHL as long as it's concealed.

Well, here's my 2 cents worth. First the disclaimer, I am a firm believer in the old .45 ACP. I love 1911's, have four different flavors. My favorite is a Sig SpecOps. It is a nail driver right out of the box. Next favorite is a Springfield Loaded. Almost as good as the Sig. For carry (car and off body protfolio carry) I really like the Springfield XD 4" .45. Very accurate, high capacity, well made, and like the Glock, very easy to field strip and clean. Heck, I even clean it sometimes when it is not dirty, that's just me.

Do they still make such a thing?

Yes.

Stainless Steel version frame isn't an alloy.

Actually I meant metal as in non plastic. the ones I looked at were aluminum frames, I wasn't sure they made an all steel gun. Stainless wow that must get a little heavy.

Just reading some history about Sig, I have not been up on all things gun related for awhile, since I was a baby mill starting in 92  Now I've got more time to catch up.

About Us : History

I didn't even know they were originally a Swiss company. That does explain how they achieved their high praise and reputation though.

And since New Hampshire has been running the show, their reputation has taken some knocks, mostly earned.

BUT...can't blame them for trying to gain market share.

I have never owned a Sig, but they do have a fine reputation. I was recently looking for a small frame .22 pistol, and thought the Sig Mosquito would be a nice one. After some research however, I repeatedly heard that the Mosquito was plagued with many problems. This really surprised me since their larger caliber pistols were always top notch. I ended up getting a Walther p22 which is OK, but I am now waiting to get Ruger's new SR22 pistol which is getting rave reviews. It's on order but they are a little scarce due to their popularity.

I've never owned one, but was thinking about buying one several years ago. What turned me off was an apparent problems with the frames cracking. A Baltimore County policeman I knew (at the time) told me about this...so no first hand experience.
I can't recall the model number, but it was a full sized handgun.
