Are you sure you don't need magnification? In my opinion, Eotechs are great for quick and close in use but poor for Long range accuracy

The EOTech is the fastest sight I have ever used. Out to about 200 yards I don't need magnification everything works very well.

It is a lot easier to make shots over 200 yards with a keyboard than a real rifle. I love my EOTech.

As far as sighting in goes, the centerline of the sight is much higher above the bore of the rifle than the usual scope mount.

I use the calculator on this site to help set up my rifle: Ballistic Calculator GunData.org. Measure the the height of the center of the site above the bore, and run the calculator a few times to get reasonable distances for both first and second crossings. (The bullet will cross the line of sight for any type of sight twice. One while it is rising and close to the rifle, one while the bullet is falling and farther from the rifle. The second crossing is what most people call the distance the rifle is zeroed for.)

Once you know where you want the bullet at various distances, start with a close target. 25 yards max. Adjust the scope to get a point of impact shown by the ballistic calculator. (Print the pages and take them to the range.) Now move to 50 yards and make minor adjustments, then to 100 yards. If your range doesn't have a firing station at the yardage you want from the ballistic table, the table will tell you how high or low the point of impact should be for a yardage you do have available.

I've used various EOTechs, Aimpoints and ACOGs, and they all have strengths and weaknesses depending on what they're being used for. In a CQB situation, the EOTech is pretty much unbeatable. If you're looking for longer range (200 yd. plus) capabilities, one of the others may meet your needs better. Magnifiers are available for the EOtech which flip to the side when not needed, giving you the best of both worlds. I have a 552 with a 3x magnifier on my daily carry M4, and for my purposes, consider it the perfect setup.

What are you going to mount this on, and what are your intended uses?

Thanks for the replys guys. I am mounting this on a Colt AR-15 6920 MPR and I intend to shoot ground hogs and close targets.

I have a Eotech mounted on my .44 mag Performance Center Smith and Wesson handgun. Looks really weird and my buddies laugh. But for hunting, it works!

I have the original Eotech (Bushnell HaloSight) mounted on a Ruger .22 for plinking. If you have already purchased one I am sure it will work fine on your AR, it is a time proven system. If not, I believe you will have allot more versatility with a magnified scope for about the same price. The Burris MTAC presents the same type illuminated sighting system but can also magnify up to 4x. And having used both I would not put an EoTech on my AR.

I have 3 Eotechs, one with rear buttons and two with side buttons. It's important to get the side buttons if you are or will later use their 3X magnifier, otherwise you have to swing the magnifier out of the way to get to the buttons.

The magnifier, while pricey, really does extend the range nicely. has long range of eye relief and is a worthwhile addition for squirrel size targets or for enhancing the precision of shooting out past 100 yards.

The biggest advantage of the EOTech, is it's ability to acquire a sight picture very quickly no matter what the relationship is between your eyes and the sight. As I said earlier, for CQB type situations it's pretty much unbeatable. For precision shooting on small animals, I would probably opt for a magnified sight.

Unless you're tracking a moving animal (tough to do with any optic) you'll probably want some magnification so that you can have more precise shot placement. With the magnifier you can have both, but it's an added expense, and a substantial one at that. Whatever you get, good luck and good hunting.

You should be able to remove your upper, remove bolt, and then bore site. I set a target in the back yard, and then set the rifle(or in this case upper) on sand bags. Most times my first shot at 25 yard is very close to a bullseye.

If you have BUIS, you could just cowitness it as others have mentioned.

blackdog,

Agreed. The EOTech is far different than a "tubular" red dot when it comes to ease and speed of acquisition. It doesn't interfere with one's peripheral vision in either eye, both eyes open seems natural with no "adjustment"problem. When you swing the gun, the EOTech dot/s are just there and that's where the bullet will be if you pull the trigger.

Flipping the EOTech magnifier into position changes the nature of the sight. Dot acquisition is still quick, just not quite as quick as without. 3 times magnification doesn't sound like a lot, but it provides a dramatic change when it comes to precision and target recognition at distance. It allows more precise sighting in, as sighting in with magnification doesn't change POI without the magnifier. The magnifier is of good quality, crisp and clear with good light transmission. Besides flipping off to the side so you can go back to 1 to 1, it also has a quick release mount - removing or replacing it has no effect on sight zero. As you say, it's a substantial expense, but depending on what you want, maybe worth it.
