Gun value?

I know the price of ammo has been covered, but is anyone up on current gun values. I have been wanting .223 for a while. I talked to a cousin last night that has three he would sell. He has a blue and a stainless mini 14 and the other I'm sure I can't afford. He said it is a pre ban Colt AR 15 that has never been fired. I'm going to his house next week to look at them, but don't know what kind of deal I'll be looking at. Any advice from the experts? Thanks, JC

The mini 14 and the Colt should be a bit pricey I would think. The last stainless mini-14 I looked at was just over $1000 and the a pre-ban Colt is still one of the most sought after "assault weapons. If it has the fitted case and all the accessories it should be a minimum of $1500 and closer to $2000 might be more accurate.
Last week my local gun dealer was still sold out of AR's(Bushmaster Dealer). He has several on backorder and the distibuter can not even tell him when they will ship.
BTW: I am not a dealer, prices are just my local observations.

I have an DPMS brand AR(bull barrel)myself and it is pretty decent for the price. However the best shooting new 223 I have is a New England arms single shot. Short, light, very accurate, and reasonably priced. You should be able to get a couple of them for the price of any current production AR. My son thought I was nuts when I bought it, but now it is his gun of choice to borrow when he goes coyote calling.

The Ruger site is showing a mini 14/20 for $846.30 retail.

check out gunbroker.com and realize the prices there are always high.

You can find the blued versions for around 750, stainless will usually cost you 50-75 more. If he's asking more than 800-825 for the stainless, go elsewhere, cause you can still get them for that price. A lot of them being sold right now, it's a great weapons system.

The preban Colt will run the price already posted. There isn't any difference really between the prebans and the ones Colt is selling now, as long as it was manufactured after 2004. All the stuff that came off during the ban, went back on after it expired, to put it in laymens terms.

If you ever wanted an AR, you better jump on it now. After the upcoming "lockdown", you won't be able to buy one legally.

About the best value for accuracy is the Savage made Stevens 200 for $300. Of course I reload, but here is what mine will do at 100yds. It's my favorite .223 I own because it is cheap enough to use it as a beater and it is accurate to boot.

As far as the Mini 14 goes, just build yourself a good AR from kit and you will have less money in it and a far more accurate rifle. I have about $700 in this J&T Dist. kit and it is accurate as I can be. Plus, Ar's may be hard to come by in the next year.
