In Chappell Hill Texas, a little town down the road, the bank president, Mr. Smith, decided to change the weapons prohibited sign on the door of his bank after being robbed twice in three years.

I guess that old saying, "When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns" makes sense to him in his situation.

The NRA has invited him to speak at their upcoming convention.

This linked forum has a picture of the bank's front door:

You can't really believe criminals will carry guns once they are illegal, do you?

Wait until Nancy Pelosi hears about this! :smiley_aafz:

Nice sign. Hello back from Murchison about 30 miles from ya.

Now all he needs to do is get his employees licensed, that should change the odds!

Nancy Pelosi who? LOL I haven't kept up with the news but only figured she had been committed by now..:D

I have to check out one of the comments that said that the bank I use has "no gun" signs. I have been using the drive in banking windows so did not notice. Might just have to change banks. I ended up at my current bank by a series of closures and purchases and not by choice.

Don I am glad you posted that.

Well, the other way didn't work so hopefully this slows up the robberies. I'll get lambasted for saying this but I still think more handguns means more crime not less (helmet on).

I'm adding an edit as I feel I have to clarify the 2nd sentence. I have nothing against guns, in fact I have a gun. I think if I lived in Texas and managed a bank I'd have the same sign. You gotta do what matches the environment you live in.

Well i own enough hand guns to supply a small (very small) army and none of my guns have ever shot or killed or robbed anyone. I think more Criminals means more crime. . . lock them up and keep them there.

That's perfectly sound logic. In 1816 there's not a single recorded fatality resulting from motor vehicle accident, therefore more motor vehicles resulted in more motor vehicle fatalities. :confused2: However it's also true that not all firearms incidents are crimes & some result in less criminals.
There's a plethora of articles on the net describing how the US is responsible for gun violence in Canada and Mexico because their citizens are very restricted re: firearm ownership therefore it must be US criminals that are causing all their problems. Maybe Mexico & Canada should tighten their borders.

I think this bank manager finally got the message that "when seconds count, the police are only minutes away!" and his customers might be more reliable. MikeD74T

This is like a hospital I now of in Irving with the sign at the front door advising CHL holders that guns are prohibited in the hospital. Now it's their hospital, so I respect their right to do that, but it sure does seem stupid to me. If someone intends to go in there to shoot an employee, doctor, patient, etc. do the really think that sign will stop that person? But the honest, non-dangerours folks will abide by the sign and leave their weapons outside.

My wife once had similar thoughts on the to many guns theory until I gave her a copy of Armed & Female by Paxton Quigley.

The wife now owns a very nice S&W revolver and has her permit to carry concealed
