Thank God Mith didn't send proof. That's just a little toooo much information. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Didnt we decide that Hadriens wall was built to be a windbreak for all the kilt wearers in scotland? Pretty good idea on the Brits part there /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cool link Bob. My first impression was that the guy doing that must no longer be gainfully employed. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I can think of other things to do than moving large stones without any modern equipment. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually, the guy is obviously probably close to being correct. I recall from being at Stonghenge that there are several drawings of teams of guys with ropes pulling the huge stones that were hewn from the Blue Mountains. The image that really stands out in my mind is one of the drawings of a fella wearing a steel helmet with the built in nose guard. I think it was in the drawings of the "history" of the place in the underground area you have to go through to walk around the area from the parking lot. Anyway, I had to think that it would be bad enough moving those huge stones on sets of logs (that is what they show there as the means used for transporting the stones) without having to wear a steel helmet all day. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Also, being that it is always so windy at Stonehenge, I wonder if they didn't use some way of using wind power to help move the stones on the rolling logs? Like some giant sails in addition to slave power pulling ropes. That way, they could save some of the slave power for just moving logs and clearing a path. In the 3 times I've been there, I think there has always been a good 20 mph wind or better. Maybe someone has been there more times can say, but I seem to recall it always being really windy there.

Hi Bob; I went back to review that clip, but couldn't get it for some reason. Did you catch the guys name? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks Ron, I wonder if the name was changed to protect the innocent? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One thing I would really like to see is how Wally is going to set the TOP stone. They show him standing next to an example of 2 vertical stones he set, with a top horizontal stone sitting on top of them. But they never show how he actually set the top stone. What did he do to move it over into place so it sits on top of the other stones?

Dargo, I doubt that wind power, in the form of a sail would do much, but possibly in the form of a wooden wind mill, with wooden gears, used to power a pulley system to pull or spin the stones, or used to power a weight transfer system to rock them?

You see, there you have it. Now you know that I didn't build it. Besides, I would have put it closer to town. It's in the middle of nowhere and I still don't know what it is. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Am I the only one that is asking..."how did he lift the block to get the pebble and first boards under it in the first place?"

I can imagine the block sitting flush on the deck....then.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Lifting it with his CUT? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
