H Boomer 8n RPM Automatically REV's to full on cold start.

Yes its been outside, i just started squeezing it into a shed because i was getting sick of digging it out everytime it snowed.

What do you think caused the governor to stick Jim? There should no not water in the gov. Ken do you park your tractor outside?

Andy, of course that was a guess. On my tractor, it wasn't the actual governor, but the throttle was iced. The flyweight actuation of the governor could not overcome the iced throttle. Also, when you increase the throttle lever, you are pulling on a cable. When you decrease the throttle, you are pushing on an extended throttle cable that will just bend into a big "U" shape if the throttle is stuck. You have to have the spring return tension on the throttle mechanism to pull the cable back through its sheathing. Any frozen moisture inside the sheathing/jacket will also interfere with operation. Anything you can do to keep moisture out of the area like a small tarp over the hood and/or something to apply heat to the linkage/cable is gonna give you more reliable operation in cold weather. However, I could not make any definitive call on this without seeing the Boomer 8N's throttle operation. It might have a TPS like most vehicles today with computer control of actual throttle position. If that's the case, just consider my post rumblings from the peanut gallery.

FYI the Block heater made a world of difference! and was much easier to install than i thought it would be, the hardest part was trying to catch all of the 9L of coolant. I don't get the crazy surging anymore and the tractor has started without much difficulty even at -31C

i just need to plug it in for about 4 hours to warm up the coolant.
