I have done a little research into the use of induction motors for electricity production, but not enough to give any advice. Youtube has a ton of videos posted and the link I posted was just the first one that popped up while doing a quick search. I was searching for hydro production and am thinking about giving the induction motor a try.

I can't remember where I got it, but I used to have a small booklet titled "alternator secrets", that had some info in the back on using an induction motor as a generator.

I have that .pdf, but it's at home on my home pc; I'll post it when I get home.

I've ran induction motors as generator without being paralleled to the utility or a syncronous generator but it took some doing to make it generate.
Frequency and voltage can not be closely reguulated with a stand alone induction generator.
Primary application for induction generators is on wind turbines and some water turbines. Wind turbines make dirty power and tend to trip the P&C circuits.

Yeah, I shoulda searched first. Just found a ton of threads after I posted. Feeling kinda dumb. Wishing there were a delete thread option.

Maybe I'll edit the post to be something completely different so I don't look like such a dummy.

Now you'll have to put up with all the stupid posts by people who won't let the thread die.

iirc Farmall or somebody planned to equip farm tractors with high output alternators. with the intention of electrically driving equipment instead of using a pto ?
I seen a Farmall at a show with a great hulking alternator that looked factory mounted on the right side.

I do like the thread title wording though: "Harvesting electricity"

Here's the "Alternator Secrets" .pdf mentioned earlier.

Cool article. You can tell it's a bit dated since it doesn't include today's available simple cheap inverters.

1800 is just right, if the motor would run 1800 when used as a motor.
Faster than that, the frequency would exceed 60 hertz - slower would be less than 60 ...
As far as the reactive 'boot up' current goes, that would be a problem...
