So, when I installed the kitchen faucet 3 1/2 years ago, there were no instructions in the box. The diverter valve had two outlet connections with the same size fitting to which each of a flexible hose was to be connected. One was for the sprayer, the other for the spout. Logic dictated the sprayer would hook to the longer tube (as sprayers need occasional replacement and it would be easier to unhook than the short tube) with the smaller diameter (because sprayers require less flow) so I set to work. While lying on my back and standing on my head simultaneously I became disoriented and hooked them up exactly backwards of the carefully thought out logic. Well, the flow at the spout was a little low, but I could take paint off the wall across the room with the sprayer.
Fast-forward 3 1/2 years: The spout flow recently had become painfully low while the sprayer pressure had increased to where it was now possible to remove layers of plaster from the far wall in the next room over. This morning's project was to swap the two hoses and regain use of the kitchen sink! I carefully unhooked and rehooked (exactly as they were before
)the hoses. Turned the water back on and the flow to the sink was even worse, however I could now wash my neighbors windows from my kitchen with the sprayer. Upon closely inspecting my work and noticing the hoses had not been swapped I again disconnected and reconnected the hoses, except this time a picture was taken for reference (I don't remember how I used to keep things straight before having a camera phone). Success! The hoses were indeed swapped! I turned the water back on and the flow at the spout was barely a trickle, but the sprayer now worked without having to even depress the button to turn it on.
As a last gasp attempt to not buy a new faucet I cleaned the aerator. It's all good now
